Curry Leaf
(Math Club of MTTS Alumni)
Curry Leaf is the Math Club of MTTS Alumni. The naming of this club, Curry Leaf, was motivated by Professor S. Kumaresan's fond reference to the triangle inequality as the "Curry Leaf Trick."
Mission and purpose of Curry Leaf : To embody the essence of MTTS in the realm of learning and teaching Mathematics.

Title : Introduction to Lie Algebras
Abstract : We will discuss about Lie Algebras in this mini series of four talks. We aim to understand the various concepts involved in classifying simple Lie Algebras over complex numbers.
Speaker: Dr Sankar Ilangovan
RKMVERI Belur Math
Date and Time: The Date and time for the talks are given below:
1. Talk 1: 10 August 2024 (Saturday) at 2:00 pm IST.
2. Talk 2: 11 August 2024 (Sunday) at 2:00 pm IST.
3. Talk 3: 17 August 2024 (Saturday) at 2:00 pm IST.
4. Talk 4: 18 August 2024 (Sunday) at 2:00 pm IST.
Title : Calculus proof of square root of 2 is irrational
Abstract : In this talk, we will explore the irrationality of roots, beginning with a calculus-based proof of the irrationality of the square root of 2. Building on this foundational example, we will attempt to generalize the proof to broader cases, examining the extent to which similar methods can be applied. Ultimately, we will prove that if the root of a monic polynomial with integer coefficients is not an integer, then it must be irrational. This proof will not only enhance our understanding of irrational numbers but also provide insights into the properties of polynomial equations and their roots.
Speaker: Krishan Sharma
Assistant Professor
Government College for Women Gurawara, Rewari
Date and Time: 30 June 2024, Sunday at 4:00 pm (IST)
Title : What are Continued Fractions?
Abstract : Continued Fractions arise in various areas of Mathematics like rational approximation to real life-constants, and functions. In this talk, we will trace the early origins and applications of these mathematical objects. We will discuss continued fraction expansions of well-known functions and end with a couple of project ideas.
Speaker: Dr Kiran Kumar Behera
Assistant Professor, VIT Bhopal
Date and Time: 27 February 2024, Tuesday at 4:00pm (IST)
Title : Graph colouring and some bounds on it
Abstract : We will begin this talk by understanding the (proper) graph colouring. Having done that, we shall define the chromatic number of a graph and see several bounds on the chromatic number of a graph in terms of the graph's other attributes. We will end the session with Brook's theorem.
Speaker: Dr. Shuchita Goyal
Assistant Professor (Krea University)
Date and Time: 20 January 2024 at 5:00pm (IST)
