Curry Leaf
(Math Club of MTTS Alumni)
Curry Leaf is the Math Club of MTTS Alumni. The naming of this club, Curry Leaf, was motivated by Professor S. Kumaresan's fond reference to the triangle inequality as the "Curry Leaf Trick."
Mission and purpose of Curry Leaf : To embody the essence of MTTS in the realm of learning and teaching Mathematics.
Heartfelt Gratitude to MTTS Trust: A Beacon of Love and Support

Title: Polynomial Approximation and Chebyshev Polynomials.
Abstract: In this lecture, we propose to discuss the role of Chebyshev polynomials in the theory of Polynomial approximation. In the process, we shall carry out a comparative analysis of interpolation and approximation.
Speaker: Prof. V. M. Sholapurkar, Adjunct Professor, Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana, Pune.
The Date and time for the talks are given below:
Sunday, 28th June 2025, 4 PM IST.
Title: Ramanujan and The Partition Function
Abstract: The partition function p(n) counts the number of distinct partitions of a positive integer n. The partition function is a central object in combinatorics and number theory. Ramanujan was the first who discovered that the partition function has nontrivial patterns in modular arithmetic, now known as Ramanujan's congruences. In this talk, we will introduce Ramanujan's congruences and the recent developments on the distribution of the partition functions. The talk will be accessible to a general audience.
Speaker: Prof. Rupam Barman, IIT Guwahati
The Date and time for the talks are given below:
Sunday, 6th April 2025, 4 PM IST.
Title: Numbers and Geometry
Abstract: We will introduce the concept of Algebraic Numbers and talk about what they can tell us regarding geometric constructions.
Speaker: Prof. Sujatha Ramdorai, University of British Columbia.
She is known for her work in the field of Algebraic Number Theory. She has been conferred with many awards, including Padma Shri in 2023.
The Date and time for the talks are given below:
Saturday, 1st March 2025, 5 PM IST.
This lecture was live streamed in YouTube.
Title: Maximal Implies Prime Principle
Abstract: In commutative algebra, there are numerous results that show that an ideal maximal with respect to some property happens to be prime. We shall go over many such results. In the 2nd part of the talk, we will present a generalization of Eakin-Nagata theorem and Cohen's theorem as a consequence of a theorem of Jothilingam.
Speaker: Prof Viji Z. Thomas, IISER Thiruvananthapuram.
The Date and time for the talks are given below:
1. Talk 1: 22nd February 2025 (Saturday) at 11:00 am IST.
2. Talk 2: 23rd February 2025 (Sunday) at 3:00 pm IST.
Programs organised by curry Leaf can be classified in the following Categories:
Svādhyāya
Svādhyāya is an initiative by Curry Leaf, designed to encourage people to engage in mathematics discussions about with one another. We hope to make it an annual program, though it is currently in the experimental phase.
The Curry Leaf platform provides selected students from MTTS with the opportunity to deliver short seminar talks. Usually, the VSSP takes place in the month of October, preceding the Curry Leaf Days.

Curry Leaf Days is a four-day program held to celebrate the birthdays of Prof. S Kumaresan and Curry Leaf, which coincidentally occur on November 3rd.
Tentatively, Curry Leaf Days will consist of an inaugural session, five Curry Leaf Talks, one Panel Discussion, a Birthday celebration, and two PTMT Talks. Below is a tentative structure for Curry Leaf Days:

Miscellaneous
In addition to the five regular programs organised by Curry Leaf, occasional events are also held by the club.
Below is a rough outline of how the programs by Curry Leaf may be tentatively distributed throughout the year.
