The Calculator app for Windows 10 has a currency converter. It helps you convert more than 100 different currencies from around the world. Conversion works offline too, making this mode even more useful if you are roaming internationally and do not have a data connection.

You can still move them from Windows 7 machine to Windows 7 machine, and will continue to function for as long as the server-side remains running. If the exchange rate gadget you're referencing is the one that came with Windows 7, it sounds like Microsoft may have finally killed off the server that feeds it data.

It is possible to fix the issue by running this script i have it set to startup, works everytime resets gadgets to working again might be useful for others having problems more info below save as .bat

The general consensus, including this same discussion on a Microsoft forum, is that you just have to make a minor adjustment, to the config.xml file, and then reverse it, and the weather gadget comes back to life.

Open it up. Make one insignificant change, eg delete a letter somewhere. Save the file. Undo the change i.e. type the letter back in, then save the file again. Voila! Reactivate your gadget by clicking on the spanner which appears when you hover over the gadget icon itself, and simply click OK. The weather gadget should now reactivate and start working. %uFEFF

Actually you do not need to change the file at all. Just right-click the config.xml file and select edit, then simply save the file WITHOUT making any changes. When you restart the gadget it should be working. Of course, you will need to reset your current location ...

Currency Meter can monitor up to 6 currency rates (also known as foreign exchange rate or forex rate) for 149 currencies, gold, palladium, platinum and silver. So you can set the alert and key in the rate at which you want to make your transfer, then it will keep scanning the market every 10 minutes but you can reduce this to 1 minute. When the rate is achieved it will send an alert sound and alert icon.

The alert feature can set alert above price and alert below price with five different alarm sounds included, the gadget also supports music file formats including asx, wpl, mp3, wav, and wma. Sound volume and repetition can also be adjusted. All sounds require Windows Media Player version 7.0 or later to play.

If you move your cursor above a gadget you can drag it around your desktop. It doesn't need to stay on the sidebar. There will also appear some buttons next to the gadget. Click on the X to close a gadget or on the wrench icon to access its options.

The next gadget is a clipboard manager. Here I copied the installer file and then the name of the file. Clipboarder will display everything you copy to the clipboard. By clicking on an element you make it the current clipboard. This way you can select older clipboards and paste them into other applications. You can also open a clipboard directly.

Here you can, for example, click on the first checkbox to make the sidebar always visible. This way you have your gadgets always in sight. A disadvantage is though, that the close button of maximized windows isn't on the top-right corner anymore. To fix this you can put the sidebar on the left side.

4.Press WinKey+R, type the following and press ENTER:%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Cache5. Delete the folder named 53eab605-3b97-4da0-8e92-ea49d47af529The above folder is where the Currency Gadget stores some data. Likewise, Weather gadget stores the data in a folder named 168522d5-1082-4df2-b2f6-9185c31f9472.

Microsoft has disabled the weather and currency gadgets via a recent Security Update, due to concerns over the vulnerability associated with these gadgets running on your computer. That may be the reason you are not able to find it your gadget list.

Since being launched, this first widget based on the Currency System Script Library not only became the favorite currency conversion application in Google Desktop's Finance category, but it also displaced all other converters from the top 20 positions:

What it does: It shows exchange rates for virtually every currency in the world. You can also change the numbers in the boxes to convert one currency value to another. In small view, it shows two currencies, but in full view you can add more. As an international student, I find this information invaluable in my daily life.

I have a bunch of Gadgets ruing on my Windows 7 64-bit desktop. Most of them are from addgadgets.com and have not received updates for a while. But from what I understand, this is issue not related to the gadget creators, but Windows 7 itself. Anyway reloading the "sidebar.exe" processes does resolve/fix/repair the frozen/broken Windows 7 gadget issue.

They are buggy and freeze-up every now and then (Or get all weird pink/purple). In the reference image below "Drive Meter" and "Digital Clock" gadgets have crashed, got broken, got frozen and mangled with PINK...

The hotkey for the script is Ctrl+Alt+S. The "Sleep 150" part can be removed, but I noticed that sometimes it still reloads with errors and having some time delaybefore restarting the "sidebar.exe" process seems to resolve the issue. In the reference image below "Weather Meter" gadget is having issues after reloading "sidebar.exe" process with the "Sleep 150" part of the code removed.

Windows Desktop Gadgets is a feature of Windows Vista and Windows 7 (excluding the Windows Server family of the operating system). It hosts mini-applications or "gadgets" which are a combination of scripts and HTML code. Their use cases include displaying system time, downloading and displaying RSS feeds, or controlling other software such as Windows Media Player. In Windows Vista, gadgets can run "docked" in the sidebar. In Windows 7, they can "float" anywhere on the desktop. It is also possible to run multiple instances of a gadget simultaneously. Windows Vista and 7 sidebar also works on Windows XP.[4]

Windows Vista ships with eleven gadgets: Calendar, Clock, Contacts, CPU Meter, Currency Conversion, Feed Headlines, Notes, Picture Puzzle, Slide Show, Stocks, and Weather. Several other gadgets available during the Vista beta such as App Launcher, Feed Viewer, Number Puzzle, Recycle Bin and Egg Timer never made it to the final release of Windows Vista. Windows 7 adds a Media Center gadget and removes the Contacts, Notes and Stocks gadgets.

Originally, Microsoft provided a link to a web site called Windows Live Gallery where additional Sidebar gadgets that have been created by third-party developers could be downloaded. The site was officially retired on October 1, 2011.[5][6]
