The population of Babylonia in this so-called Post-Kassite or Middle Babylonian period comprised two main groups, the native Babylonians (composed of the descendants of the Sumerians and Akkadians and the assimilated Amorites and Kassites) and recently arrived, unassimilated tribesmen from the Levant (Suteans, Arameans and Chaldeans). By the 8th century, the constituent groups of the native Babylonians, the main population in the large cities, had lost their old identities and had assimilated into a unified "Babylonian" culture.[10] At the same time, the Chaldeans, though retaining their tribal structure and way of life, were becoming more "babylonized", many adopting traditional Babylonian names. These Babylonized Chaldeans became important players in the Babylonian political scene and by 730 BC, all the major Chaldean tribes had produced at least one Babylonian king.[11]

The entire national structure of the kingdom, which was thought to be ordained by God himself, came crashing down. This event fulfilled centuries of prophetic warnings, as hundreds of years of tradition, culture, and history was destroyed in just one year. This was their Day of the Lord, and it left them absolutely devastated.

His successor, Esarhaddon (r. 681-669 BCE), initiated the efforts to return Babylon to its former glory, personally overseeing the work. The city later rose in revolt against his successor, Ashurbanipal (r. 668-627 BCE), who put down the rebellion but did not damage Babylon to any great extent and, in fact, personally purified the city of the evil spirits which were thought to have led to the trouble. The reputation of the city as a center of learning and culture was already well-established by this time.

Michael Schapira: You were born in Kingston in the late 1970s. What path of interests, or specific things that you started to hunt down and collect, led you to all the magazines in the Underground Press Syndicate? Did a broader interest in the counterculture lead you to the underground press or vice versa?

Sadly, both groups are losing out, with the real victims being the very people they are supposed to be reaching with the good news of Jesus Christ. Whilst the Christian world has been drawing their theological battle lines over culture and contextualisation, real, living souls have been (and still are in great numbers) perishing for lack of a concrete gospel witness in housing estates and schemes up and down our nation.

Now we are living in the prophetic age when Babylon is falling down. All of us should shout and preach. When we boldly proclaim the glory of Father and Mother and tell the good news of salvation to all people around the world, Babylon will fall according to the prophecy and the kingdom of God will come soon.

THOMPSON: Well, my partner and I have been belatedly, very belatedly, started digging into the treasure trove of "RuPaul's Drag Race." We're falling in love with new people, getting irritated with new people, kind of diving into this whole new wing of reality TV competition. And along the way, to kind of get better perspective on the show, I finally sat down for the first time to watch Jenny Livingston's 1990 documentary "Paris Is Burning," which is, of course, you know, a massive cultural touchstone, influenced by Madonna's vogue, influenced "Pose," a show I really love. It obviously had a great impact on "Drag Race." And it's a really touching and sad and fascinating film. It's kind of exploring the '80s New York City drag balls and kind of the characters who occupy this world. And some - a lot of the sadness comes from the fate of so many of the people in this movie. Only a very small handful of people featured in this film are still alive. And that gives this film an even additional layer of sadness, but there's also just such joy and quotability. I will have Pepper LaBeija living in my heart from here on out. 006ab0faaa
