Welcome to Pack 1954 of San Marcos, TX.
Cub Scouts is a family friendly program which allows Scouts to learn life long outdoor and leadership skills. Our Pack welcomes both girls and boys from Kinder to 5th grade.
During the school year, our dens meet weekly on Tuesdays at 6:00pm in the First Presbyterian Church in San Marcos. Special pack events such as our Pinewood Derby, Blue & Gold Banquet, Crossover and Christmas Party are held on the last weekend of each month at 3pm. During summer we have Pack events 1-2 times a month. Pack 1954 participates in various activities throughout the year, including: camping, hiking, Pinewood Derby, popcorn sales, service projects, council day camps, summer camp and more!
We have Join Scouting evenings in late August/ early September for potential new Scouts. Contact our Cubmaster, Bryant Cuadros, at cubmaster1954@gmail.com to get more information or arrange a time to visit at other times during the year!
DenS
A scout can join Cub Scouts at any time from Kinder to fifth grades. New scouts will be placed in a den of similar age/grade. Each Den has an adult Leader and is encouraged to have an Assistant Leader. Leaders are usually a parent of one of the scouts in the Den. Each year Scouts have various required adventures to learn new skills.
Fees and Dues
Fees and dues are collected to support the Scouts BSA organization and Pack 1954 in order to offer various Scouting opportunities year round.
Fees for recharter are collected annually based on your initial registration date to register your Scout with the BSA organization. This amount is set by Scouts BSA, and was $85 this year with an optional subscription to Scout Life Magazine for $15/year. (Additional information about BSA's registration fees can be found on the BSA Capital Area Council website.)
Dues are collected by the Pack and Dens to fund purchases of awards, den activity materials, pack meeting activities, camping trips, leader training, etc. They are due by June 1st for the upcoming school year, or at the time of joining (prorated if you join after September at $10/month through June). Dues are collected by Jan 1st for fall registrants. Currently, the Pack Committee has set Pack Dues at $125 for the 2024-25 school year. Den Dues vary depending on the den you are in as follows:
So, Is Cub Scout Expensive?
It doesn't have to be! Overall, a full year of Scouting with Pack 1954 costs less than a dollar a day. However, like most organizations, there are costs associated with national BSA registration, Pack/Den dues, and the purchase necessary essentials (uniform, den adventure book, and hiking essentials). Our Pack has fundraisers throughout the year to help scouts earn funds to use towards scouting events and cover the Pack's budget.
Popcorn (September - November): Scouts sell popcorn individually and at prearranged store fronts during this time. Roughly 30% of a Scout's sales are awarded back to scouts. Since our Pack does not currently limit individual earnings, many Scouts use this fundraiser to earn funds for fees, dues, uniforms, camping equipment, and day trips throughout the year. In addition, popcorn fundraising allows Scouts to practice public speaking and presentation skills.
Pack Fundraising (Concession Stand): We also ask that Scouts volunteer for two (2) Pack Fundraising Opportunities throughout the year, which helps the pack raise money for specific equipment and events. These events include Farmer Fred's Festivals (Fall Festival and Spring Fling) held by the City of San Marcos the Thursday before Halloween and Easter, and Movies in Your Park put on by the City of San Marcos at local parks, typically on Tuesday evenings during the summer months.
