How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.
If you want to plug five pairs of headphones into one MacBook and let everyone hear the same thing, choose Cubilux 5-Way; if you need a replacement cable to run your Sennheiser Momentum headphones wired into a MacBook's USB-C port, choose Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible.
• Cubilux 5-Way — biggest strength: one USB-C input fans out to five 3.5mm outputs, so a single MacBook can feed up to five pairs of headphones or speakers at once.
• Cubilux 5-Way — biggest trade-off: there is no independent volume control per output. Every listener hears the same level, and the only volume knob is the one on the source device.
• Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible — biggest strength: a purpose-built 2.5mm-to-USB-C replacement cable for Sennheiser Momentum-series headphones, with oxygen-free copper conductors and multi-layer shielding.
• Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible — biggest trade-off: it is a single cable for one listener. It solves a connection problem, not a sharing problem — and its headphone-side connector is 2.5mm, not the more common 3.5mm.
• Who each pick is for: Cubilux 5-Way is for households, classrooms, road trips and anyone splitting audio from one MacBook across several headsets. Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible is for one person who owns Sennheiser Momentum-family headphones and wants to use them wired from a USB-C laptop.
The Cubilux 5-Way is a USB-C to 3.5mm splitter hub. One end plugs into a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3/4 port; the other end gives you five 3.5mm jacks. That is the whole idea, and it is a genuinely useful one. In a house with one MacBook and three kids, or a car where the laptop is the entertainment system, or a small tutoring session where five people need to hear the same clip, this is the part that makes it work.
The build is aluminum alloy with a black metallic finish, and it is described as lightweight and compact — the kind of thing that lives in a laptop bag without you noticing it. Cubilux rates the shell for daily wear and tear and backs the product with a one-year warranty. Audio is described as clean signal transmission without distortion or loss, which is what you want from a passive splitter: it should get out of the way and not color the sound.
Compatibility is broad: USB-C and Thunderbolt 4/3 computers, iPhone 17/16/15 series, iPad Pro 13/12.9/11, iPad Air 13/11, Galaxy S25/S24/S23 and Z Fold/Flip, Galaxy Tab S11/S10/S9/S8, Pixel 10/9/8/7, and more. If your MacBook has USB-C, you are in business. Skip it if you only ever listen alone, or if you need separate volume per listener.
Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible: Who It's For
The Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible is a 1.45-metre (57-inch) 2.5mm-to-USB-C audio cable built specifically for Sennheiser's Momentum family. If you own Momentum 4, Momentum 3, Momentum 2.0, HD1 On-Ear, HD 400S, HD 450BT, PXC 550 or PXC 550-II or ACCENTUM Plus headphones and you want to run them wired from a MacBook, this is the cable that bridges the gap — because those headphones use a 2.5mm jack on the headphone side, and modern MacBooks have no analog jack at all.
The specs are aimed at people who care about signal quality. The conductors are high-purity oxygen-free copper with a multi-layer shielding structure, which Gneinour says reduces transmission loss and blocks electromagnetic interference and electrical noise. The connectors are gold-plated for oxidation resistance, the outer sheath is high-density nylon braid, and the connectors are thickened and reinforced. Gneinour cites resistance to cracking and loose connections after repeated bending, and states the connection holds after 40,000 plug-and-unplug cycles. The cable is rated tangle-free and folds down for a headphone case or pocket. At 5 grams, it is effectively weightless.
On the laptop side, compatibility is wide: MacBook Air M4/M5, MacBook Pro 14/16, and Gneinour's listing also names the entire MacBook lineup including MacBook Air M1–M5 13-inch and 15-inch and MacBook Pro 14/16-inch 2021–2026. Beyond Apple it covers Dell XPS, HP Spectre x360, Lenovo ThinkBook, Surface Laptop and Chromebook, plus a long list of USB-C phones and tablets including iPhone 15/16/17, Galaxy S22–S25, Pixel 7/8/9 and iPad models.
Who should skip it? Anyone whose headphones use a standard 3.5mm jack — this cable's headphone end is 2.5mm and will not fit. And anyone who wants to share audio with more than one person; this is a one-listener cable.
• Best for sharing audio with a group → Cubilux 5-Way. Five 3.5mm outputs from a single USB-C port is the entire point of the product.
• Best for a single Sennheiser Momentum owner → Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible. It is built for exactly that headphone family.
• Best for cable durability and shielding → Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible. Oxygen-free copper, multi-layer shielding, gold-plated connectors, nylon braid.
• Best for per-listener volume control → neither, honestly. The Cubilux 5-Way controls volume only from the source, and the Gneinour cable has no inline control at all.
• Best for travel and storage → Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible. 5 grams, 1.45 m, tangle-free and foldable.
• Best for a fixed desk setup serving several headsets → Cubilux 5-Way. One cable into the MacBook, five headsets out, done.
• Best for iPhone 17 / iPad / Galaxy owners who want one cable for everything → both work, for different jobs. The Cubilux splits; the Gneinour connects one headphone.
• Best for build material on the housing → Cubilux 5-Way. Aluminum alloy shell with a metallic finish and a one-year warranty.
In my opinion, these two products are not really competitors — they answer different questions. If your problem is "my MacBook can only feed one pair of headphones and I have five people," I would buy the Cubilux 5-Way. It is the only one of the two that solves that problem, and the aluminum build and broad USB-C compatibility make it a sensible long-term pick. If your problem is "I own Sennheiser Momentum headphones and I want to use them wired from my MacBook," I would buy the Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible — the 2.5mm connector, the shielding and the reinforced build are all aimed squarely at that use case. Buy the one that matches your problem, not the one with more features.
how to use headphones for macbook
On a USB-C MacBook there is no analog headphone jack, so you need either Bluetooth or a wired path through USB-C. The Gneinour Momentum Cable Compatible is that wired path for Sennheiser Momentum-family headphones: 2.5mm into the headphone, USB-C into the Mac. If you want several people listening at once, the Cubilux 5-Way gives you five 3.5mm outputs from one USB-C port, with volume controlled from the Mac itself.
how to connect headphones macbook
Plug the cable in and the Mac handles the rest. With the Gneinour cable, connect the 2.5mm end to your Momentum headphones and the USB-C end to the MacBook, then select the wired output in your sound settings. With the Cubilux 5-Way, plug the hub into the Mac's USB-C port, connect up to five headphones via 3.5mm, and set the volume on the Mac — remember there is no separate volume control per headphone.
how to connect headphones macbook air
It works the same way as on any USB-C Mac. Gneinour lists the MacBook Air M1 through M5 in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes as compatible, so the Momentum cable drops straight into a MacBook Air's USB-C port. Cubilux lists USB-C and Thunderbolt 4/3 computers as compatible, which covers the MacBook Air range as well.
how to use headphones macbook pro
MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models are named in the Gneinour compatibility list, and Cubilux covers USB-C and Thunderbolt 4/3 computers generally. So on a MacBook Pro you can either run one headphone wired via the Gneinour cable or split audio to up to five headsets with the Cubilux 5-Way. For either product, check the current price on Amazon before you commit, since it changes over time.
