RIVER/STREAM ⇨ OCEAN/HARBOR

What’s the story?…..

The water is calm; cooler, deeper, salty. Many rivers travel to the ocean, draining fresh water from huge areas of land in a watershed! When rivers open to harbors and the ocean, there is so much going on: new & different creatures, docks & piers, boats & barges carrying goods and people! Rivers like the Hudson and Mississippi travel to the ocean creating long corridors for organisms and humans to travel. When a river is connected to the ocean, where freshwater and saltwater mix, it is called an “estuary.” Estuaries are critical habitats and wonderful breeding grounds for many aquatic and marine species. Ocean tides and storm surge can affect the river as well.
