PERMEABLE SURFACE/SOIL ⇨ AGRICULTURE
What’s the Story?
Drip, Drop, Drip, Drop….. When precipitation falls on a permeable surface like soil, the soil absorbs some of the water. This part of the water cycle is vital for agriculture: living things on a farm, like plants and animals, need water to survive! Plants are important because not only do they store water and offer food and nutrients to those that consume them, they also protect and enrich the soil, and release water vapor into the air, in a process called “transpiration.” Healthy livestock also depend on clean water for wellbeing. Permeable surfaces also allow rain water to infiltrate or percolate deeper into the ground, recharging groundwater supplies and filling aquifers.
