POTABLE WATER ⇨ SEWAGE/WASTEWATER
What’s the Story?
Gurgle, Gurgle, Flush! Ewww! After potable water is used in a municipal setting, like a city or town, the used “wastewater” (from showers, dishes, laundry, flushing, and more!) is likely to travel through a complex network of underground pipes and pumps (often buried under roadways). This is all part of the infrastructure of a town that is maintained in order to manage human water use (and waste!), prevent pollution, and protect public health. Due to normal wear & tear and aging, and especially if this infrastructure is not properly maintained, there can be damage, leaks, and other failures. Sewage wastewater in cities is usually treated by sewage treatment plants that handle all sorts of wastewater, not only from homes, but also from schools, businesses, and industry. These systems are not perfect, but without them there could be catastrophic impacts on the environment and human health.
