GROUNDWATER ⇨ AGRICULTURE
What’s the Story?
Slurp! Gush! Wow, what a wild ride! It is so bright out in the sunshine! Much of the water used for farming is groundwater pumped up by agricultural wells, in order to irrigate crops and to ensure clean water for animals to drink. Not all agricultural areas have fresh surface water like lakes, rivers, streams, or farm ponds to supplement the water needed for crops to grow and to raise livestock. The natural water cycle provides precipitation like rain, snow, sleet, and hail, but sometimes that is not enough to have successful crops, especially in arid landscapes or where droughts occur.
