AGRICULTURE ⇨ RESERVOIR/LAKE
What’s the Story?
Being part of growing plants and animals is a great use of water! Agriculture plays such an important role in producing the food that humans eat. Large areas of permeable soil surfaces (without pavement), like farms, are very important. Unfortunately, when water from farms runs into reservoirs and lakes, it will carry with it dissolved substances, which sometimes are harmful. Chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, loose topsoil, and excess nutrients & bacteria from animal waste can all contaminate reservoirs and lakes after agricultural use, causing pollution that makes water unsafe for drinking or swimming as the water continues its journey through the water cycle.
