CSMCRI is one of the premier national laboratory of CSIR and serves the nation through science verticals namely Chemical, Biological & Engineering sciences. With dedicated staff and research fellows, it excels in applied research areas, emphasising salt and marine chemicals, catalysis, speciality inorganic materials, membrane-based desalination & separation processes, seaweeds, microalgae, and halophytes, comprising cultivation, their downstream processing to value-added products, molecular biology, and biotechnology. The institute’s output is well-balanced by technology/process/product developments, as well as patents, quality publications, and societal activities. CSIR-CSMCRI is a pioneering research institute for “Fine Chemicals and Catalysis,” offering diversely specialised world-class training in the field of catalysis, and has contributed significantly to various catalytic transformations with potential significance in the speciality chemical, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and perfumery industries over the last few decades.

How to reach Bhavnagar
By Air: The nearest major airport is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad. Bhavnagar is reachable from Ahmedabad by road (approximately 170–175 km; 3.5–4 hours).
By Train: Bhavnagar Terminus (BVC) provides direct rail connectivity to Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, and other major cities.
By Bus / Road: Regular GSRTC and private bus services operate from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, and Surat. The city is also accessible by car or taxi through well-connected highways.
Nishkalank Mahadev Temple in Koliyak, near Bhavnagar, is a unique and India’s rare sea temples that becomes accessible only during low tide. Set on a small platform in the sea, the temple offers a calm and scenic atmosphere, especially during sunrise and sunset. Visitors can walk to the temple when the tide recedes, making the journey itself an interesting experience. Its peaceful surroundings and beautiful coastal views make it a memorable spot for both devotees and tourists alike.
Palitana, located in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations for Jains. The town is famed for the Shatrunjaya Hill, home to a breathtaking cluster of more than 900 intricately carved marble temples. Visitors often climb the long stairway to the top, enjoying peaceful surroundings, panoramic views, and stunning temple architecture. The hill is considered one of the holiest places in Jainism, and its serene, spiritual atmosphere attracts pilgrims and travellers from around the world.
Established in 1976, this 34 sq. km national park near Bhavnagar is famous for its wide open grasslands and beautiful wildlife. The park is home to large herds of blackbucks and many other animals. Visitors love the flat landscapes, dry grasses, and the chance to spot wolves, hyenas, and the rare Lesser Florican. It’s one of the best places in India to see a thriving grassland ecosystem and enjoy nature up close.
This hilly land is also known as Hastisengiri. The group of temples on Mt. Shatunjaya on one side, and the view of Mt. Kadamgiri on the other, create a stunning scene that feels almost heavenly. The temple itself was built by highly skilled craftsmen and stone masons, and their work is amazing to see. The peaceful atmosphere of this place makes it perfect for relaxation and spiritual reflection, making it a lovely spot for any visitor.
