More about the Theme:

Southeast Asia’s past, present, and future is shaped by its situation as a nexus of networks that has sent a complex array of people, ideas, and products along with their various ways of knowing and being across the globe. These movements have resulted in new developments of knowledge and interconnection.

This conference will focus on such notions of knowledge and networks in a Southeast Asian context, broadly understood as (but not limited to) cultural interactions, diaspora, migration, digital networks and social media, social and political movements, trade, collaboration and exchange, and knowledge production.

Venue

Golub Home Room,
International House,
2299 Piedmont Avenue,
Berkeley, CA, 94720

The Golub Home Room's antique furnishings, large decorative fireplace, and balcony view of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge provide the peaceful atmosphere for our graduate conference.

Sponsors & Hosting Centers

The Center for Southeast Asia Studies (CSEAS) was founded in 1960 for the development of research and teaching on the countries of Southeast Asia - now covering Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam - and the region as a whole.

CSEAS promotes the expansion of Southeast Asian Studies on the UC Berkeley campus by facilitating faculty and graduate research, by funding language instruction, by presenting lecture series and cultural programs, by organizing public outreach and international conferences, and by hosting visitors and scholars.

Since its founding in 1999, UCLA Center for Southeast Asian Studies has supported innovative, interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship about Southeast Asia. CSEAS has been critical to sustaining and expanding Southeast Asian Studies on campus, establishing UCLA as a major U.S. site for the study of this important region.

CSEAS serves as an important resource for those whose research and interests intersects with Southeast Asia across campus as well as for communities in southern California.
