Since 2012, every year Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) conducts Special Vacant Seats Filling Rounds, commonly known as special rounds after the completion of all JoSAA rounds to fill the remaining vacant seats at IITs, IIEST, NITs, and other GFTIs (except IITs). This year too it will be conducting special rounds examinations for CSAB 2022 or commonly known as CSAB special round 2022. The special rounds are called Special round 1 and Special round 2 respectively.

The purpose of these exams is to allow those students with seats, who are unable to get one after the JoSAA counseling ends.

An overview of the key highlights of CSAB 2022:

Students who wish to participate in the CSAB counselling 2022 need to fulfill certain eligibility criteria. The conditions for the eligibility of the candidates are as follows:

• Candidates need to qualify in JEE mains with valid rank.

• Candidates who have not been allotted any seat in JoSAA counselling and also who did not participate in it can participate in the special rounds of CSAB 2022 to be allocated a seat in the IITs, NITs, and GFTIs.

• Candidates who have been allotted a seat in any of the NITs, IIITs or GFTIs through JoSAA and opted for participation in CSAB special round at the time of reporting to the allotted institute can also participate in CSAB special round counselling.

• Candidates who opted not to participate in CSAB special round at the time of reporting to the allotted institute after JoSAA counselling are not eligible to participate in CSAB special round 2022 counselling for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

Step 1. Registration: Students need to register themselves online to participate in the csab counselling. For this, they need to register with the same application number and password used for the JEE registration. After that, they need to enter their category academic qualifications All their details will automatically be updated from there and they just need to upload the scanned copies of the official documents like:

• Certificate of Class 10.

• Marksheet of Class 12.

• Category certificate for Gen-EWS, OBC-NCL SC and ST candidates.

• PwD certificate, if applicable in the prescribed format from the competent authority.

• NRI candidates have to upload a scanned image of their Passport. OCI/PIO candidates have to upload their OCI/PIO card.

• Candidates also need to provide their bank account details and obtained marks out of 500 in the class 12 examination. One thing is to be noted that, information once submitted cannot be changed so students need to be very careful while submitting them.

Step 2. Payment of csab participation fee: After submitting all the requisite information, the student needs to pay the participation fee. They can pay the fee in online mode through credit/debit card or internet banking. Students who have participated in JoSAA need to pay it too.

Step 3. Online Choice Filling and Locking of Choices: In this step, the candidates have to fill their choices from the list of colleges available to them based on their rank and category. It is to be noted that students need to fill up new choices like the ones from the JoSAA won’t be considered. They also need to lock in their choices before the last date. It is always helpful to fill the maximum number of choices to increase the possibility of seat allotment.

Step 4. Announcement of the CSAB seat allotment 2022 results: The authority will announce the csab special round seat allotment result in an online mode according to the mentioned schedule. Candidates need to login to their portal and check the status of the result. Student if allocated a seat needs to select one of the options mentioned below:

• Freeze: Selecting this option will mean that the student accepts the allotted and won’t be participating in further steps.

• Slide: The student accepted the allotted seat with the condition of accepting a higher preference provided in the next round within the same institute. In case a higher preference is not allotted, the student will continue with the accepted department.

• Float: The student accepts the allotted seat with the condition of accepting a higher preference from any college in the next round. In case of no allotment of higher preference, the student will continue with the currently accepted department.

• Surrender and Participate in the Next Round: The student rejects the allotted seat and wishes to participate for a higher preference in the 2^nd round. But, the candidate will lose the option of retaining the currently allotted seat.

• Surrender and not Participate in the Next Round: The student rejects the allotted seat and also does not wish to continue further with the counselling process.

Step 5. Payment of the Seat acceptance fee: After being allotted a seat in the special rounds, the student needs to pay the acceptance fee to confirm the admission. The fee must be paid in online mode through credit/debit card or internet banking.

Step 6. Online reporting to the Allotted Institute/College: Students who had opted for Freeze, Slide or Float option after being allotted a seat in round 1 and also have paid the acceptance fee, need to get their documents verified from the allotted college in online mode.

After the declaration of the Round 2 results: Students who have been allotted a seat in Round 2 will have the option to accept or reject it and no further rounds will be conducted. Students accepting the seats will have to pay the acceptance fee to get their documents verified for admission and attending classes. The fee submitted as participation fee will be deducted from the college fee after the deduction of Rs 1500 as counselling fee.

Students need to login to their portal regularly to check the status of their admission. The confirmation of the admission will be displayed on their portal. Further, they will need to download their seat allotment letter and report to the institute within the specified due date, failing to do so will lead to cancellation of their allotment. They need to carry the letter and the documents mentioned in it while reporting to the college.

Ans. Special Round is a process conducted by CSAB-2017 only for NIT + System and is separate from JoSAA, hence a candidate will have to register again and will be required to fill-in choices again from the seat matrix of NIT + System Institutes.

6. I have got a seat at NIT + System Institute in JoSAA rounds and have joined the Allotted Institute. Do I need to surrender the allotted seat for participating in Special Round?

Ans. No. You don’t need to surrender the seat allotted in JoSAA round. While participating in Special Round, the seat allotted in JoSAA round will remain safe if you don’t get a seat in Special Round and will be forfeited if you are allotted a seat in the Special Round.

7. I have a seat in IIT in JoSAA rounds and have joined the Allotted Institute. Do I need to surrender the allotted seat for participating in Special Round?

Ans. No. You don’t need to surrender the seat allotted in IIT in JoSAA round. While participating in Special Round, the seat allotted in IIT in JoSAA round will remain safe whether you are allotted a seat in the Special Round or not.

8. What is the policy for refund of Participation Fee in Special Round.

The participation fee (Rs 46,000 for OP & OBC and Rs 21,000 for SC, ST, PwD) will be refunded after deducting the processing fee of Rs 1000 if no seat is allotted to the candidate.

There will be no refund if the candidate is allotted a seat in the Special Round.

9. I have reported/joined at the Allotted Institute after 7th JoSAA round and have

participated in the Special Round. If I am not allotted a seat in the Special Round, will I be eligible for refund of Participation Fee of Special Round?

Ans. a. If you had joined an IIT earlier as per JoSAA allotment, you must have deposited Rs 46,000 / Rs 21,000 as participation Fee in the Special Round. So, you will be refunded the participation fee after deducting the processing fee of Rs 1000.

b. If you had joined an Institute of NIT + System earlier as per JoSAA allotment, you must have deposited Rs 1,000 as participation Fee in the Special Round. So, you will not be refunded any fee.

10. What are the subjects for calculation of 75% aggregate marks (65% marks for SC, ST, and PwD) for NIT + System B.Tech Programmes in JoSAA and Special Round?

Ans. Following five subjects will be used for calculation of 75% aggregate marks (65% marks for SC, ST, and PwD).

• Mathematics,

• Physics,

• One subject out of Chemistry/Biology/Biotech/Technical Vocational subject

• One language,

• One other subject

11. Do I need to fulfil both the criteria of eligibility i.e. 75% aggregate marks (65% in case of SC, ST, and PwD) and top 20 percentile in the respective board.

Ans .No. You have to fulfill at least one of the two criteria.

12. During first six JoSAA rounds, I have reported at one reporting centre. Can I go to another reporting centre for changing my option from Float to Slide/Freeze or from Slide to Freeze.

Ans. It is preferred to go to the same reporting centre for such changes. However there is no such restriction.

13. What is the state of eligibility for Indian nationals passing the class XII from abroad (including Nepal/Bhutan)?

Ans. The State of Eligibility of the candidate will be determined on the basis of permanent address in India as given in the passport of the candidate.

14. How many seats one can get allocated in this system of joint seat allocation?

Ans. Even if a candidate is eligible based on any two or all three examinations, only a single set of academic programs is made available and he/she will be allocated only ONE seat from among his/her choices based on ranks in categories and their applicability in type of examination/institution.

15. Can I participate again in joint seat allocation in the next round once I reject/withdraw the allocated seat?

Ans. NO. You cannot participate anymore in seat allocation for the academic year 2017-18 for seven JoSAA rounds. However, you can participate in the Special Vacant Seat Filling Round conducted by CSAB only for NIT + System institutes.

16. I do not want to report to the admitting institute / reporting centre. How can I claim my refund of the seat acceptance fee?

Ans. You can seek refund of seat acceptance fee through the online portal of JoSAA.
