Message from the Manager:
Dear Prospective CRYS Member and Parents/Guardians,
As a Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony (CRYS) alum who is now a public school music teacher, I am excited to invite your student to participate in CRYS during the 2019 spring season!
CRYS was created to give ensemble performance opportunities to interested students who do not have an orchestra program in their schools. It is also a wonderful enrichment experience for serious students who participate in their school’s orchestra or are home-schooled.
All students who play an orchestral instrument – strings, brass, woodwinds, or percussion – are welcome to join. Rehearsals start mid-January at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lakewood, and the season culminates with the Spring Gala at Chautauqua Institution’s Elizabeth S. Lenna Hall on May 19, 2019
Acclaimed CRYS Music Director and Conductor Bryan Eckenrode leads all three CRYS orchestras. The training he offers will be enhanced with regular instruction by Staff Prelude Coach Marie Karbacka and Staff String Coach Cody Hiller, in addition to periodic coaching by outside professional educators. These include SUNY Fredonia School of Music faculty Marc Guy who will coach brass; Sarah Hamilton, woodwinds; Kieran Hanlon, lower strings; and Kay Stonefelt, percussion. Erie Junior Philharmonic’s Overture and Chamber Strings Instructor Jennifer Jansen will coach upper strings.
Students will also have the opportunity to attend local professional performances, and plans are underway to combine campus tours with performances at SUNY Fredonia and Mercyhurst University.
