About the Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony

The Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony provides talented young musicians with a professional orchestral experience. The Youth Symphony was established in 1986 under the name of Jamestown Orchestra of Youth. Now known as the Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony, the organization integrates all students from Chautauqua County and surrounding counties.

Membership is open to all students who play an orchestral instrument. The Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony (CRYS) has three orchestras:

Prelude Strings: beginning string players (NYSSMA level I)

Young Artists Orchestra (YAO): intermediate string, woodwind, brass, and percussion students (levels II and III)

Chamber Orchestra: advanced string, woodwind, brass, and percussion students (levels IV, V and VI)
