This online workshop proposes a space for Latin American academics and activists engaging with data to think critically about the legitimacy and power dynamics of knowledge production. Given that most research on data, as well as its area of application, have focused on and is informed by the Global North, this workshop sets the spotlight on Latin America and places activist and academic knowledge on equal standing. The organisers are an interdisciplinary group of Latin American scholars and activists, women based in the North and the South, engaging with data across the borderlands of disciplines, practices, migrations, and languages. By hosting the workshop in Spanish (with English interpretation), the organisers aim to create a space where Latin American voices are heard and appreciated, without requiring English proficiency from speakers and participants. We invite the CHI community to cross the borders and join a different conversation, including panels and interactive sessions that will inspire—and challenge—current thinking around data and data practices.
