Step 2: Open a Portrait Image
Next, you need to open a portrait image that you want to retouch with Portraiture. You can use any image format that Photoshop supports, such as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, etc. To open an image, go to File > Open and browse your computer for the image file. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the image file onto the Photoshop workspace.
Step 3: Duplicate the Background Layer
Before applying Portraiture, it is recommended to duplicate the background layer of your image. This way, you can preserve the original image and compare the before and after effects of Portraiture. To duplicate the background layer, go to Layer > Duplicate Layer or press Ctrl+J (Windows) or Command+J (Mac). You can rename the duplicated layer as "Portraiture" or anything you like.
Step 4: Apply Portraiture
Now you are ready to apply Portraiture to your image. Make sure the duplicated layer is selected and go to Filter > Imagenomic > Portraiture. This will open the Portraiture plugin window where you can see a preview of your image and various options to adjust the settings.
By default, Portraiture will apply an automatic preset that detects and smooths skin tones based on your image. You can see the effect of Portraiture by toggling the Preview checkbox on and off. You can also zoom in and out of your image by using the slider or clicking on the magnifying glass icons at the bottom of the window.
If you are happy with the automatic preset, you can click OK to apply it to your image. However, if you want to customize the settings, you can use the tabs on the right side of the window. There are three tabs: Preset, Fine Tuning, and Output.
Preset Tab
The Preset tab allows you to choose from different presets that are designed for different types of portraits, such as Normal Skin, High Key, Low Key, etc. You can also create your own presets by clicking on the + icon at the bottom of the tab. To apply a preset, simply click on it and see how it affects your image in the preview window.
Fine Tuning Tab
The Fine Tuning tab allows you to adjust the parameters of Portraiture manually. There are four sliders: Smoothing, Skin Mask, Enhancements, and Color Correction.
Smoothing: This slider controls how much Portraiture smooths skin tones. The higher the value, the more smoothing is applied. You can also adjust the details and threshold levels of smoothing by clicking on the gear icon next to the slider.
Skin Mask: This slider controls how much Portraiture masks skin tones from other areas of your image. The higher the value, the more masking is applied. You can also adjust the hue range and tolerance levels of masking by clicking on the gear icon next to the slider.
Enhancements: This slider controls how much Portraiture enhances eyes, lips, teeth, and hair. The higher the value, the more enhancement is applied. You can also adjust the brightness and contrast levels of enhancement by clicking on the gear icon next to the slider.
