Shreya started studying music at the age of four. She began rigorous classical music education at the age of six. She was discovered by the mother of film producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali when she was sixteen years old after winning the television singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma. She made her Bollywood playback singing debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic film Devdas (2002), for which she won a National Film Award, a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, and a Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent.
