TV Career
Taylor-Joy appeared in one of the episodes - `Nocturne` - of the TV series Endeavor in 2014. In the same year, she also was part of the TV movie Viking Quest. The next year she starred as a recurring character in the TV series Atlantis.
Movie Career
Taylor-Joy made her screen debut in 2014 with the fantasy comedy film Vampire Academy directed by Mark Waters but her role in the movie went uncredited. However, later she happened to meet the actor Allen Leech at an audition and she was signed by the actor`s acting agency. This led her to star in her first lead role in Robert Eggers` directorial debut The Witch (2015) - she was only 17 when she signed for the role. Grossing $40 million against the meager production budget of $3 million, the movie received worldwide commercial and critical acclaim and received multiple accolades as well. Taylor-Joy was highly praised for her performance and bagged several awards including the Breakthrough Artist Award at the Austin Film Critics Association Awards.
After the success of The Witch, Taylor-Joy starred in the another horror film, Morgan (2016), which is the directorial debut of Seth Owen. The actress essayed the role of the lead character Morgan in the film that features an ensemble cast of Kate Mara, Rose Leslie,Michelle Yeoh, Toby Jones, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Paul Giamatti, and Boyd Holbrook. However, unlike Taylor-Joy`s previous movie, Morgan received mixed to negative reviews. In 2016, she next appeared in the drama movie Barry, which is based on Barack Obama`s life at the Columbia University. Directed by Vikram Gandhi, the movie opened to positive reviews at the box office. In the same year, she also appeared in M. Night Shyamalan`s psychological thriller Split. The movie follows the story of a man having 23 different personalities.
In 2017, Taylor-Joy starred in another directorial debut Thoroughbred directed by Cory Finley. The drama thriller that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, also starsAnton Yelchin, Olivia Cooke, Francie Swift, Kaili Vernoff and Paul Sparks.
