When we write whatever we like, we can begin to escape the 'should' and find the words for 'stuckness.' Slowing thoughts to the pace of a pen or pencil helps order ideas out of our internal chaos.
Writing is different from talking or thinking. Words on the page create something that wasn't there before ...and which I can decide to re-read, store with care or even throw away....
Getting Started 06.04.23
Gentle introductory writing exercises to set up conditions for writing freely effectively and safely. Free writing as a tool for accessing our authentic voice. Self-care in the writing process.
Characters and Voices 13.04.23
In writing we get to know different facets of self and have an opportunity for playful and serious consideration of identity. We look at the place of our own 'inner critic'
Metaphors, Myths and Archetypes 27.04.23
Metaphor is embedded in our everyday language. Personal and shared myths and archetypes recount and explain experience. In writing we can find our own metaphors and stories we live by.
Dream work 04.05.23
Dreams withhold inner thoughts and experiences not generally expressed. We will work with dream images and symbols and also consider the idea of 'dreams deferred.'
The Writing Body 11.05.23
We will consider the idea that our bodies can be keepers of unwritten and unspoken stories that are waiting to be heard. Through various exercises, we turn to our bodies and enlist their help with writing our story.
Grief and Loss on the page 18.05.23
In grief we write to unburden our hearts and writing lightens us. Putting words on paper has been shown to help with overwhelm and break out of rumination. We look at how to begin writing loss and consider the idea of griefwork being about remembering in time with more love than pain.
Going on Writing 25.05.23
We look at how to keep writing practice alive, recording writing topics to take further, at your own time and pace ; the ongoing use of writing to find creative solutions in life.
