"Join us on November 18th and take a culinary adventure by celebrating international dishes. There is no better way to end our traditional international week other than having a fun-filled, family-friendly event that brings together students, faculty, staff, and friends. During our first international dinner, you will be able to try many dishes from all over the globe. From French classics and Mexican faves to Japanese sushi and Caribbean spice."
As part of the e-board, it was my duty to contact student organizations interested in participating in the event. I would then follow up with vendors and groups to ensure our event would run smoothly.
Since our student group was new to event planning, I couldn't properly help execute a flyer. Looking back, I laugh at the idea that even with a flyer that grabbed little to no attention, we were able to have a lot of students attend!
One of our highlighted performances was the African Fashion Show. We knew we wanted dance performances and a fashion show to highlight multicultural backgrounds, which leaned in our favor with our venue. Our student organization decided to use Downs Hall at Kean University as our venue. During that time, it was used as a conference/event hall, so we were easily able to access the area.
Again, we had little to no idea of what we were doing or what we wanted. We just knew that we wanted to celebrate International Education Week with a big international dinner. With the help of the Center for International Studies at Kean University and our student organization, the International Student Association, we were able to incorporate our mood board with the location space.
From this...
...to this!
As planned, we utilized our catwalk space and turned it into a catwalk, performance area, and dance floor! This event was not easy to pull off, but it was completely worth it!
