< A 720 Valkyrie >
The A 720-300 variant finally pins a name to the A 720. Does this mean the supersonic transport finally enters mass production and is no longer mere prototype models? Valkyrie is still taking the old mechanical approach to SSTs with a variable sweep wing and double jointed droop snoot with a lowerable aerodynamic visor for supersonic flight. The mechanical complexity makes it capable of non-afterburner takeoffs that are quite the sight to take in. Although for a proper climb it lights its afterburners to zoom to cruise altitude. The fueslage is specialized with aera ruling applied with a thinner crossection in the middle towards the rear; this gives the front and rear areas of the fuselage considerable width. Apart from that is the advanced up-to-date flight deck.
< Flight Notes >
- Strong pitch down tendency with nose in down position
- (unfortunately) afterburners needed for supersonic flight
- Use 2/3 (max) throttle setting (w/ afterburners) for cruise flight
