Cox IMAP and SMTP Settings

What is Cox.net IMAP / SMTP

This means you don't have to use the web interface on Cox.net! You can check your email and send messages using other email programs (like Mailspring, Outlook Express, Apple Mail, or Mozilla Thunderbird). Using desktop email apps can improve workflow. It usually provides more options, and your email is still available on your computer when you are offline.

Here are the steps to set up an IMAP server to set up Cox Email:

·         Set the account type to IMAP

·         Set your email address (for example: user@domain.com) as the user name

·         Set the email account password as your password

·         Set imap.cox.net as the server hostname

·         Set the server port to 993

·         Set the required authentication to Yes. Here the username and password for the email account is required

·         Set SSL / TLS to Yes

Here are the steps to set up an SMTP server to set up Cox Email:

·         Set the account type to SMTP

·         Set your email address (for example: user@domain.com) as the user name

·         Set the email account password as your password

·         Set smtp.cox.net as the server host name

·         Set the server port to 587

·         Set the required authentication to Yes. Here the username and password for the email account is required

·         Set SSL / TLS to Yes

Steps for manual set up Cox mail using IMAP SMTP settings on Android devices:

1.       Start by choosing the mail icon from your applications screen. Then put the email address and email password. Select manual setup.

2.       Choose IMAP

3.       If you choose IMAP, be sure to enter the settings below and click "Next"

·         Set the IMAP server as imap.cox.net

·         Set the security type to none

·         Set Port to 143 for IMAP

·         Secure - Port: 993, Security Type: SSL / TLS (Accept all certificates)

·         Unsafe - Port: 143, Security type: None (accept all certificates)

4.       Enter the outgoing SMTP settings below for COX.NET and click "Select Next"

·         Set the SMTP server as smtp.cox.net

·         Set the security type to none

·         Port set to 587 for outbound SMTP

·         Secure (SMTP) outbound = port: 465 for security type: SSL / TLS (accept all certificates)

·         Outgoing mail (SMTP roaming server) Secure = port: 587, security type: SSL / TLS (accept all certificates)

·         Outbound (SMTP) = port: 25, security type: none (accept all certificates)

·         Outbound (SMTP roaming server) not secure = port: 587, security type: none (accept all certificates)

5.       Choose Done You are now ready to use your email account on an Android phone

Here are the steps to configure or setup Cox Email on iPhone

·         Open the iPhone and tap "Settings".

·         Click Next on Mail, Contacts, and Calendars, then click Add Account.

·         Click on "Others" followed by "Add a mail account".

·         Now correctly enter the details in the "Name", "Email Address", "Password" and "Description" field.

·         Click "Save" now.

·         Click on "IMAP" then under "Incoming Mail Server", enter the details correctly

·         Hostname: imap.coxmail.com

·         Username: Coxmail email address

·         Password: Coxmail Password

·         Next, enter your Outgoing Mail Server details.

·         Hostname: smtp.coxmail.com

·         Username: Cox email address

·         Password: Cox mail password

·         Click "Save" to save the settings.

·         Click Next on "Advanced" and under "Incoming Settings", do the following

·         Swipe "On" the "Use SSL" option.

·         Enter "993" as the "server port".

·         Under "Outgoing Mail Server," do the following

·         Swipe "On" the "Use SSL" option.

·         Enter "465" as the "server port".
