Covina Ward Mission Plan 2020
Sharing the Gospel: A Natural Approach
(Mosiah 18:20-22)
“Yea, even he commanded them that they should preach nothing save it were repentance and faith in the Lord, who had redeemed his people. And he commanded them that there should be no contention one with another, but that they should look forward with one eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another. And thus he commanded them to preach. And thus they became the children of God.”
The third priority in the North West Area Plan is to grow the church by gathering Israel. To achieve this goal, the Covina Ward will prayerfully and diligently carry out member missionary work and fellowshipping practices by:
1) Educating ourselves, friends, neighbors, and fellow church members of the pure doctrine of the restored gospel through scripture, the teachings of modern-day prophets and personal experiences in learning and living God’s plan of salvation.
2) Testifying of the truths of the restored gospel to fellow members, friends, neighbors and family members. Testify how exercising faith through obedience to God’s commandments has, can and will bless our lives and the lives of others.
3) Inviting less-active members, friends, neighbors and family members to learn more about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, attend church meetings and activities and to receive saving ordinances.
4) Serving and ministering to others as the Savior would.
Educate (D & C 11:21)
“Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men.”
Study the scriptures and “Come, Follow Me” daily as individuals and as families.
Pray daily for personal missionary opportunities.
Respond in a simple, humble, and clear manner to questions, myths, stereotypes, or misunderstandings of the Church; even if your answer is, “I don’t know, but I will find out for you!”
Study Preach My Gospel and The Power of Everyday Missionaries to learn ways to more effectively share the gospel with others.
Testify (Acts 10:42)
“And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.”
Bear personal testimony to others of the things taught and the way you live as revealed in scriptures and by modern-day prophets and apostles.
Talk about the influence of the Church in your life to neighbors, friends, family, and co-workers.
Share missionary experiences in quorums and classes frequently. Post these and other “missionary moments” on the Covina Ward News website.
Invite (2 Nephi 26:33)
“...And he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile.”
Invite non-members and less active members to sacrament meetings, dinner with missionaries, mutual activities, potlucks, baptisms, talks, ward/youth activities, primary program, and other uplifting or wholesome activities and meetings.
Set goals as families, individuals, quorums and classes to place Books of Mormon and Church literature with less actives, neighbors, friends and family members.
Fellowship investigators and new converts to help them no longer feel as “strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19)
Serve (Mosiah 2:17)
“And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God.”
Participate in any service opportunities including those on the JustServe.org website.
Volunteer in the annual Covina Christmas parade that occurs on the first Saturday in December.
Prepare to serve a full-time mission by taking temple preparation and mission preparation classes.
