Disaster Declaration

On Monday, March 16, 2020, the City of South Padre Island declared a Local State of Disaster for public health emergency due to COVID-19.

City Parks and City Facilities Closed

City Hall, Convention and Visitors Bureau facilities and parks are closed to the public.

The public is urged to conduct City business by phone or email. In person meetings will be by appointment only.

Coronavirus

Coronavirus is a large family of viruses that are commonly found in humans and many animal species. This virus is capable of animal to human transmission (known as zoonosis), however this is a rare event. Examples of this process include MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV and this new virus SARS-CoV-2.

This novel Coronavirus, and its associated disease COVID-19, first appeared in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in late December. Since its arrival COVID-19 has spread to many international locations, including the United States and Texas. Due to its increasing dissemination Health and Human Services Secretary Alex M. Azar II declared a public health emergency for the USA.
