Development

The Club has a strong and growing development program, under the leadership of a certified instructor and mentors. Introductory level lessons are available privately, or in a group/family setting for a fee (members of the CTC may receive group instructional clinics from time-to-time at no additional cost during the playing season).

Clinics

Members' Skill Development Clinics

Start Date: early May 2025 (exact date TBA)

Mondays: 9- 10:30 a.m. AND 6- 7:30 p.m.
*No pre-registration is necessary. Attend either or both sessions at no fee.

Clinics are up tempo, high volume ball striking events. Proper technique is key to avoiding injury. Instructors provide minimal technique instruction, but will offer quick tips.

Clinic participation should not be considered an alternative to formal instruction, which is available for a fee. Clinic participation is a "no fee" benefit to active club members.

Lessons

Tennis lessons are available to the general public by referral to a certified instructor, not directly from The Coverdale Tennis Club.

Formal instruction is available by Tennis Canada Certified Instructors, outside of Club play hours, for a fee. Weekends are generally not available for instruction. Coverdale Tennis Club is able to supply a limited amount of racquets for both youth and adults receiving instruction, at no charge to the student. Those receiving instruction have access to a fully equipped program of balls, hoppers, pickers, racquets, and other teaching aids.

We are most fortunate to have a certified instructor, Shaun O'Reilly, as a member of the club. Five years ago, Shaun received his instructor certification in a course led by Scott Hurtubise, a Tennis Canada Coach 3 and Club Pro 3 certified coach. Scott has played tennis in Europe, coached Canadian University Tennis at Brock University,  World University Games, and Canada Games. He presently is the Head Tennis Professional at Niagara Falls Racquet Center.

Based on working with Shaun during the program and hearing how well the Coverdale Tennis Club is doing and how much it has grown, he comments on Shaun's incredible enthusiasm for instructing and says, "I am so happy you are still doing what you do for tennis in Cobourg! You are awesome!"

Instruction is available to individuals and small groups (up to 3 persons). The 5 session introductory package is intended to be concluded in 4 weeks. As with most skill development learning, practice between instruction sessions is a significant benefit to participants.
