Weekly message from our PTO President

Thank you from our incoming president...

Hello Countryside Families!

My name is Amy Shaman and it is my honor to have been elected your PTO President for the 2019-2020 school year.

I look forward to meeting and working with each and every one of you over the next year. In the meantime, a little about me to get us started. My family and I moved to Mount Laurel when my son was in Kindergarten. We were nervous about joining a school mid-year, and where we knew absolutely nobody. In our time here, I have gotten to know all of the teachers and staff as well as many of the students and parents. I credit a lot of that to my involvement in the PTO. When we were new, I found it hard to meet people, especially parents of my kids’ friends, so I decided to attend a PTO meeting in an effort to make some connections and learn more about what was happening at school. I was instantly welcomed, valued for my input and fresh perspective, and on my way to becoming a parent who was very active at the school. My son is now leaving fourth grade at Countryside and moving on to Hartford School (*wipes tears*) with all the benefits of having had a wonderful and enriching experience. My daughter started Countryside in Pre-Kindergarten and will soon be entering third grade (where does the time go?). I am happy to have another two years with you and the terrific faculty and staff of Countryside!

Two years ago, I was elected to the PTO Board as the Corresponding Secretary. I was responsible for every tweet, Remind text, and Facebook post you saw. I hope that I have kept you informed and entertained in my tenure. Though I will be passing those duties on, I look forward to serving you in many new ways as your president.

I follow in some wonderful footsteps. I cannot thank Liz Paradise, our past president, and the rest of the 2018-2019 school year Board members--Stephanie, Jackie, Melissa, and Megan--enough for their time, effort, dedication, and hard work. The PTO is so lucky to have Melissa and Megan continuing next year as our Vice-Presidents, and we are very excited to welcome our new Board members Christine, Sara, Pam, and Jason.

I sincerely look forward to working with all of you and hope you will get involved. When you need to contact me, feel free to email me at CountrysidePTOpresident@gmail.com or call/text me at 201-424-9399.

Thank you and have a wonderful summer!

Kindest regards,

-Amy Shaman

A fond farewell from our outgoing president...

Hello Countryside Families,

I’d like to say a few words of gratitude for everything that Countryside has done for me, my family, and all of the 4th grade class. When our family first started at Countryside, we weren’t sure what to expect. The school had a reputation as a family-oriented place full of love and friendship, but until we experienced it ourselves that was just an abstract concept. From the moment we came in, though, the PTO and the staff and the parents warmly welcomed us, and before long our family discovered that we were happy to get involved, to give back a little of the love we were receiving. Five years later, our children are forever shaped by their experiences here, and we are forever grateful. And so we want to say, “thank you.” Thank you to the teachers and staff for being the best that their profession has to offer. Thank you to PTO members past and present for always being willing to do the things that need to be done, for the staff, for the students, and for our Countryside family. Thank you to your children, for being amazing friends, teammates, castmates, clubmates, and classmates. And thank you to you, the parents, for showing up, for supporting the PTO’s mission, the students, and each other. Truly we are, to quote a wise principal, better together.

As outgoing President, I want to urge the Countryside family to continue to support the PTO, and to commit to helping even more in 2019-2020 and beyond. Show up for meetings, volunteer for events, get involved. Your PTO, and the Countryside family, needs you.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your PTO President in the last two years. You’re in great hands with the new President and board. I look forward to seeing what the future holds!

-Liz
