The creator of Cosmic Watch is looking to add moons and their orbits around the planets. According to Mahipal Nehra on the Cosmic Watch Development team, other possible implementations for a 3.0 upgrade may include real time weather, space weather and upgraded and custom location settings, along with a widget for a possible smartwatch app for Cosmic Watch users.

The software includes three main modes: astronomy, astrology, and world clock. Each offers an in-depth and high-quality view with plenty of customization options. We found that one of the most appealing features was putting the app on a hyper-speed setting and relaxing while watching the universe move throughout time.

The Cosmic Watch 2.0 has made many improvements:

- New Sky View: Point your device to the sky and get a real-time look at the constellations, stars and planets

- New Solar System View: complete solar system, heliocentric and geocentric

- Events and Notifications: next astronomical and time related events + get notifications

- New equatorial clock face

- Added a bigger cities database

- fullscreen: tap the cosmic watch logo

- Celestial Sphere: switch on/off in the Earth View

The special thing about the Cosmic Watch is that you can switch between three points of view: Earth, Sky and Solar System View. Seeing the same from different perspectives allows the user to better understand our cosmic surroundings: Sun, Moon, planets, stars and the Milky Way. Speeding up time allows us to grasp the apparent motions we observe from the surface of the Earth, like the daily path of the Sun. Another very special thing is the ability to show the celestial sphere, a concept used for the ancient art to orientate yourself using the sky, crucial for celestial navigation and sky gazers. The Solar System can be switched between geocentric and heliocentric and the Cosmic Watch is able to send you notifications such as moon phases, sunset and eclipses.

Check the project on cosmic-watch.com, like us on Facebook to keep informed about astronomical events and most importantly, download the Cosmic Watch and spread the word about it! We strongly depend on those downloads to keep developing. We have many beautiful ideas we love to add to this great app.

Seth MacFarlane had met Druyan through Tyson at the 2008 kickoff event for the Science & Entertainment Exchange, a new Los Angeles office of the National Academy of Sciences, designed to connect Hollywood writers and directors with scientists.[9] A year later, at a 2009 lunch in New York City with Tyson, MacFarlane learned of their interest to re-create Cosmos. He was influenced by Cosmos as a child, believing that Cosmos served to "[bridge] the gap between the academic community and the general public".[9] At the time MacFarlane told Tyson, "I'm at a point in my career where I have some disposable income ... and I'd like to spend it on something worthwhile."[10] MacFarlane had considered the reduction of effort for space travel in recent decades to be part of "our culture of lethargy".[7] MacFarlane, who has several series on the Fox network, was able to bring Druyan to meet the heads of Fox programming, Peter Rice and Kevin Reilly, and helped secure the greenlighting of the show.[7] MacFarlane admits that he is "the least essential person in this equation" and the effort is a departure from work he's done before, but considers this to be "very comfortable territory for me personally".[7] He and Druyan have become close friends, and Druyan stated that she believed that Sagan and MacFarlane would have been "kindred spirits" with their respective "protean talents".[7] In June 2012, MacFarlane provided funding to allow about 800 boxes of Sagan's personal notes and correspondences to be donated to the Library of Congress.[9]

Tyson proceeds to describe how the work of Isaac Newton, William Herschel, Michael Faraday, and James Clerk Maxwell contributed to understanding the nature of electromagnetic waves and gravitational force, and how this work led towards Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity, that the speed of light is a fundamental constant of the universe and gravity can be seen as distortion of the fabric of space-time. Tyson describes the concept of dark stars as postulated by John Michell which are not visible but detectable by tracking other stars trapped within their gravity wells, an idea Herschel used to discover binary stars.

Tyson then describes the nature of black holes, their enormous gravitational forces that can even capture light, and their discovery via X-ray sources such as Cygnus X-1. Tyson uses the Ship of Imagination to provide a postulate of the warping of spacetime and time dilation as one enters the event horizon of the black hole, and the possibility that these may lead to other points within our universe or others, or even time travel. Tyson ends on noting that Herschel's son, John would be inspired by his father to continue to document the known stars as well as contributions towards photography that play on the same nature of deep time used by astronomers.

Exactly 60 years ago, on May 24, astronaut Scott Carpenter wore a Navitimer Cosmonaute on board of the Aurora 7 spacecraft. This milestone in history marked also a premiere in the world of horology: the legendary timepiece was the first Swiss wristwatch that went to space.

On larger scales, however, the effects are quite noticeable and even dramatic. When commanding missions elsewhere in the solar system, space scientists have to contend with delays of minutes or hours between the occurrence of events and the arrival of the signals describing them. Looking at the night sky, you ponder stars as they were tens, hundreds, or even thousands of years ago. And when astronomers observe distant galaxies as they rush away from ours because of the cosmic expansion, they are looking back billions of years through cosmic history; not only were galaxies younger, but the universe itself was expanding at a different rate.

Note: Because Earth moves around the Sun faster than Voyager 1 or Voyager 2 is traveling from Earth, the one-way light time between Earth and each spacecraft actually decreases at certain times of the year.

Nature Astronomy published a new study on July 3, 2023. In it, we use two decades of observation to untangle the complex flickering of almost 200 quasars. Buried within this flickering is the imprint of expanding space. It shows the universe appearing to be ticking five times slower when it was only a billion years old.

Due to the finite speed of light, as we look through our telescopes, we are peering into the past. The further we look, the further back into the life of the universe we see. But in our expanding universe, the further back we look, the more time space has had to stretch. Therefore, the more the relative nature of clock ticks grows.

Due to their brightness, however, we could see the influence of this cosmic time dilation much further. The most distant quasars, from when the universe was only 1/10 of its present age, were ticking away time five times more slowly than today.

The farther we peer into space, the more we realize that the nature of the universe cannot be understood fully by inspecting spiral galaxies or watching distant supernovas. It lies deeper. It involves our very selves.

This insight snapped into focus one day while one of us (Lanza) was walking through the woods. Looking up, he saw a huge golden orb web spider tethered to the overhead boughs. There the creature sat on a single thread, reaching out across its web to detect the vibrations of a trapped insect struggling to escape. The spider surveyed its universe, but everything beyond that gossamer pinwheel was incomprehensible. The human observer seemed as far-off to the spider as telescopic objects seem to us. Yet there was something kindred: We humans, too, lie at the heart of a great web of space and time whose threads are connected according to laws that dwell in our minds.

All of this makes perfect sense from a biocentric perspective. Everything we perceive is actively and repeatedly being reconstructed inside our heads in an organized whirl of information. Time in this sense can be defined as the summation of spatial states occurring inside the mind. So what is real? If the next mental image is different from the last, then it is different, period. We can award that change with the word time, but that does not mean there is an actual invisible matrix in which changes occur. That is just our own way of making sense of things. We watch our loved ones age and die and assume that an external entity called time is responsible for the crime. 006ab0faaa
