Math Day Marathon 2024

We would like to invite you to join us for a fun Pi Day (3.14) event. Thursday, March 14th, UM Professor Cory Palmer, current PhD students Ryan Wood and Van Magnan, and UM PhD graduate Anna Halfpap will attempt to deliver an entire introductory discrete math course (M 225) in a 24-hour nonstop lecture. The lecture will take place in the Math Building, Room 103, at the University of Montana. We begin on Thursday 10:00 AM and finish (hopefully!) Friday at 10:00 AM.

Walk in at any point during the 24-hour lecture and stay for as long or as short as you please. This event is open to everyone and requires no prior experience—come as a beginner and leave as an expert. 😎

Starting Thursday, March 14:

• 10 am-1 pm: Cory - Pigeonhole Principle & Ramsey Theory

• 1-4 pm: Ryan - Counting 

• 4-7 pm: Van - Binomial Coefficients & Double Counting

• 7-10 pm: Ryan - Extremal Set Systems

• 10 pm-1 am: Van - Graph Theory & Extremal Graph Theory

• 1-4 am: Anna - Induction

• 4-7 am: Cory - Recurrence Relations 

• 7-10 am: Anna - Probability & the Probabilistic Method
