I am interested in the relationship between digital media use in children's leisure time behavior and its impact on language learning processes in primary school age. As children's leisure time activities have changed fundamentally over the last 20 years, digital media are now omnipresent in german households and in children's family life. This could have an impact on children's development, as informal educational processes in the form of free play time and social interaction play a central role in the development of language. If new forms of entertainment and activities are introduced and complement, displace, or replace traditional forms of engagement, this could lead to both short- and long-term consequences for language learning behavior.
