To keep it simple Reiki is a stress reduction and relaxation technique that supports the body's natural ability to heal itself.
Rei means Universal. Ki means energy.
This life force energy also commonly called Chi or Prana, flows through pathways through and around all living things. It is that energy that gives us our aliveness and vitality.
The stresses and traumas of our daily life can impact the freedom of this energy to flow with ease in the way it is designed to, and this causes the imbalance. Long term imbalance can lead to even more disfunction which can lead to disease.
Reiki healing sessions help restore the balance in the flow of this vital energy.
This powerful energy healing practice works by channeling universal life force energy through the practitioner's hands to promote balance, relaxation, and healing.
Reiki can be used to support emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, making it a versatile and holistic healing modality.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE HISTORY OF REIKI, KEEP READING.
Reiki roots come from India having passed through Tibet and China to Japan. There, a little over 100 years ago, it was rediscovered and systematized by Dr Mikao Usui. He then practiced it and also taught it to others.
One of Usui's original student's was Hayashi Chuhiro. He then passed the knowledge to Hawayo Takata, who brought the Reiki teachings to the western world.
The lineage of Reiki Practitioners and Teachers is represented by a "Reiki tree" tracing it back to the founder of Reiki, Mikao Usui. It is used to illustrate the hierarchical structure of Reiki training and teaching.
One of my Reiki lineage tree lines looks like this:
Mikao Usui -> Chujiro Hayashi -> Hawayo Takata -> Phillis Lei Furumoto -> Gail B Axelrod -> Krystyna Borkowski -> Olga Szwajgier -> Zuzanna Mendez
Over the years, Reiki has evolved into different styles, each offering unique approaches to energy healing. It is worth mentioning that the energy itself hasn't changed, but as we all evolve and open up more, the understanding of the energy and how we use it is changing.
I believe that all styles have value and the best way to decide which one is right for you, is to investigate and see what resonates the most. Choose a practitioner that you feel comfortable with. Trust your intuition.
If you’re wondering which Reiki approach is right for you, this quick guide will help you understand the key differences.
Usui Reiki is the most commonly practiced and widely recognized form of Reiki. Developed by Mikao Usui in Japan, it focuses on channeling universal life force energy to promote healing, balance, and relaxation.
Best for: General energy healing, stress relief, and spiritual growth.
Karuna Reiki is a more compassion-based Reiki system that works deeply on emotional healing, using additional sacred symbols to focus on trauma, karmic patterns, and past wounds.
Best for: Emotional healing, releasing deep-rooted pain, and shadow work.
Holy Fire Reiki is a refined and powerful form of Reiki, known for its divine love and purification effects. It emphasizes deep self-healing and spiritual awakening.
Best for: Spiritual growth, purification, and deep relaxation.
Jikiden Reiki is a traditional Japanese Reiki method that follows the original teachings without Western influences. It relies on intuitive energy flow rather than symbols.
Best for: Those seeking a pure, traditional Reiki experience.
Kundalini Reiki combines Reiki healing with the awakening of Kundalini energy, which resides at the base of the spine. This form of Reiki can be very intense and transformative.
Best for: Chakra alignment, spiritual activation, and deep energetic clearing.
Tibetan Reiki incorporates additional symbols and techniques from Tibetan energy healing, such as the Dumo symbol, which focuses on fire energy.
Best for: Those who resonate with Tibetan spiritual traditions and deep energetic work.
Shamanic Reiki integrates traditional Reiki with shamanic practices, such as working with spirit guides, animal totems, and nature elements.
Best for: Those drawn to nature-based healing and shamanic traditions.
Rainbow Reiki expands upon Usui Reiki by incorporating color healing, chakra work, and additional multidimensional energy techniques.
Best for: Chakra balancing, vibrational healing, and those who love working with color energies.
I am a Master Practitioner / Teacher of Usui Reiki. Because I was taught a long time ago, before Karuna and Holy Fire Reiki were trademarked, I did receive training in these two styles as well as part of the classes I took.
I also combine elements of Shamanism in my practice. I rely on my intuitive guidance, so every session is exactly what you need.
