Cool Bricks is a puzzle game requires the player to use a bat to guide a ball to break bricks to progress. Compared to Breakout, Cool Bricks features the inclusion of varied weapons, such as laser guns, missiles, grenade launchers, larger bats or multiple balls,[1] and the addition of power-ups with positive and negative effects, such as a 'poison mode' that creates involuntary player movement.[2] The game features over 150 levels with a password system to allow for returning to certain stages.[3] The graphics of Cool Bricks are programmed to make use of a 'high-color mode' in the Game Boy Color that allows the device to display 2,000 instead of 50 colors on screen, by compromising with reduced animations.[4]

Hi I am the original author of Brickbreaker for Blackberry. I just downloaded the SDK over the last 48 hours and tried playing around to get a Brickbreaker-like game running on the Playdate Simulator. Here is my progress in the first few hours.

I am pleased with the simplicity of the SDK. I originally thought I'd write this in C, as was the original Brickbreaker, but the Lua tooling is really simple to use. The Sprite interface is especially helpful for collisions, and is well thought out. I really appreciate the work put into the SDK.

Hi, I'm currently in the mood for a nice brick breaker game. Scanning this subreddit doesn't help me that much. Got my eyes on this new take from Square Enix. I play Anodia at the moment, but a premium brickbreaker would be awesome.

I have released a game that started out doing the Complete C# Unity Game Developer 2D course. The game is called Burning Brick Breaker, and as you may have guessed, it is a brick breaker game. The game has been released on both the Apple app store and Steam. I think the game turned out to be pretty cool, let me know what you think!

Break thousands of bricks through lots of levels of increasing difficulty with this classic retro style game! - Cool Brick Breaker is an addictive free game with great graphics and music that includes many items, bonuses and power-ups such as multiball, expand paddle, laser and much more!

I am currently writing a brickbreaker game in python to teach myself classes and such however I am unable to get the ball to show up. I have the bricks and the paddle, the paddle is moving but not seeing the ball. Any idea why?

Alpha Bounce is a BrickBreaker-style game with the usual paddle, cool power-ups, and different levels to play. However it also has an added element of a role-playing game, with missions to go on and a map to travel around.

The Lightning ball is a ball with the ability to chain a lightning effect to multiple bricks (starts at the next closest brick), hitting all of them for massive damage. The amount can be increased with the Skills Tree.

Upon contacting a brick, the brick takes normal damage from the lightning ball and then triggers a chain effect to the next bricks. The chain always goes to the nearest neighbours of the original brick, but there is no limit to how far away the next brick can be.

The lightning chain is based on damage dealt by the Lightning ball. That means that it does not matter what effects or modifiers the other bricks have, the damage is based on what the Lightning ball dealt to the original brick.

I tried changing the collision preset to BlockAllDynamic which immediately blocked all categories, however it still only bounces off of the brick. I also tried selecting Custom and only blocking the PhysicsBody, however it, too, only leads to mere bouncing off instead of breaking.

In your PDF it shows that neither the ball blueprint nor the brick blueprint has Simulate Generates Hit Events checkbox turned on. Let me know if checking that checkbox causes the Hit event to fire now that your collision channels and types are set up properly.

Among the many brick breakers that were released in the same period, MegaBall was released only on Amiga and was extremely popular in our country. Unlike others, MegaBall had very high resolutions, a vast playing field, and beautiful graphics. It was getting a lot of attention with its myriad new power-ups and the level designs that pushed the envelope. The game had many funky power-ups like the ghost ball that went through bricks, the magnet bar that attracted the ball, the gravity ball that played with really interesting physics, as well as the harmful power-ups (power-downs!) which were a first in video games.

In the years that followed the quality of the graphics in video games improved drastically. As a result many old game genres, including brick breaker, lost their popularity. An indie company of the time, Reflexive, made an awesome brick breaker with modern and realistic graphics as well as a strong physics engine. Becoming hugely successful with their first game Ricochet Xtreme, they were to make many follow-up games while keeping their community for years to come through sharing user content over the internet. In the Ricochet series you control a vehicle with an elliptical shield instead of a bar.

This game saw the ball angles getting more varied, thanks to being able to control the game with a mouse. The speed was also increased, with tons of new bricks and power-ups added. Other interesting features were bricks that could only be broken from one side, bricks that could be broken during certain times, differently shaped bricks like triangle and round bricks, explosive bricks, moving bricks, the acid ball, the 8 ball, barriers against drops, and countless others as the series progressed. Two others that I personally have found extremely interesting across different installments of this series were the multi-floored levels and rooms that were only accessible via teleportation.

BreakQuest was released in 2004 for PC. It included a more sophisticated version of what Ricochet did behind its cute vector graphic designs, which was a staple of the popular style of the era. The features that I still remember today from BreakQuest are that it was a game with a giant game screen, a strong physics engine through which everything interacted with each other, countless power-ups and features that could be upgraded, and cool level designs. I also distinctly remember that both the ball and the bar could change into different shapes based on in-game actions. In the backdrop was a strange plotline where you fight against an evil corporation in a dystopian world.

One of the bestselling games among the modern brick breakers, Shatter was a more dynamic and colorful version of Ricochet with 3D graphics. I also played and finished this game as it made an impact in the retro gaming world as soon as it was released on Steam. The levels could be completed easily and quickly thanks to helpful features like the continuous double ball, the direction changer, and many explosive bricks as well as the myriad power-ups. Its main objective was getting the highest score.

Shatter moves away from the puzzle-solving-like sensation that Arkanoid games instilled in the player. It brings back that arcade feeling through its level designs, a great example of which was the level where you work to rotate a round shaped set of bricks whose mechanics were executed by the programmers masterfully. The most successful part of Shatter in my opinion were the dynamic boss levels. Beating the bosses in Shatter required good hand-eye coordination, making them very distinct from the regular levels. e24fc04721
