two questions, I am new to my system installed at Christmas and after already having Sonos, Philips hue and harmony remotes before, feeling a little flat about what I can and mostly can't do to change things in control 4. Have door station, door strikes, hc-800, 5 x Sonos, a stack of lights (hue) and blinds (Somfy RTS controller). I want to tinker with scenes and have some control myself. My dealer tells me $350 Australian for composer home edition and it won't do much for me

Thanks everyone. Got a remote Canadian dealer to do it for me, the year of 4sight extra made it pretty cheap for just software. And your right. Wife is much happier I can update, change, rename custom buttons. Got Alexa working and custom lighting scenes allow me to end user configure system to do anything through control4 from Alexa! Happy man - thanks!

I have already purchased 4sight and the home edition comes with it, can. Upgrade my current 4sight to include home edition. If not if I purchase home edition can I use the 4sight licence included next year.

This adds a missing feature from the Control4 home automation system that dealers have sought after for years and provides end users the ability to schedule without having to utilise the Control4 Composer Home Edition software for PC or by using when / then.

I am also dealing with a customers home with Control 4 and it is also a mess. I am considering using the Control 4 for audio and replacing the control 4 switches with Lutron Caseta (Diva - Claro version) for all the main lighting and Zigbee for outside lights (timed event) and 100% motion controlled areas. I do need to bring a Control 4 contractor to reset the password and make modifications.

The beauty and curse of Control4 is its tidy template for programming home automation systems. On the one hand, dealers can configure a system pretty quickly without getting sidetracked by time-sucking bells and whistles. On the other hand, some dealers like to sell bells and whistles.

Control4 is a high-end smart home platform that requires a dealer (like us!) to install, setup, configure, and maintain. The systems are fairly complex, but with the endless customization options available, it is 100% worth it. No off the shelf solution even comes close. However, the biggest drawback is having the ability to modify or add any part to the system on your own without either going through several hours of software training or having your Control4 integrator accomplish it for you. Some people would like an easier way, especially for small, minor changes to the system. Now they have! Control4 Programming for Home Users:

Control4 develops smart home automation systems to control lighting, entertainment, security, energy, and other connected devices. The company's 2013 initial public offering was considered to be the first pure-play home automation IPO ever.

I love the Bond bridge and look forward to receiving my Bond pro. Every control4 home automation installation my company does, we include a Bond bridge in every package! Makes our integrators lives so much easier. Use the chowmain modular and setting it up with control4 is a breeze. Plus the homeowner now only has 1 app to deal with instead of app jumping.

Keep up the great work Bond!!

Visions of smart homes have long caught the attention of researchers and considerable effort has been put toward enabling home automation. However, these technologies have not been widely adopted despite being available for over three decades. To gain insight into this state of affairs, we conducted semi-structured home visits to 14 households with home automation. The long term experience, both positive and negative, of the households we interviewed illustrates four barriers that need to be addressed before home automation becomes amenable to broader adoption. These barriers are high cost of ownership, inflexibility, poor manageability, and difficulty achieving security. Our findings also provide several directions for further research, which include eliminating the need for structural changes for installing home automation, providing users with simple security primitives that they can confidently configure, and enabling composition of home devices.
