This is not at all true, if you looked at the verses I referenced above there is a pretty solid and logical amount of biblical backing for this doctrine. Ephesians 2:8-9 and Romans 11:6 are my favorites.
These verses alone could be used to prove the validity of Sola Fide. But of course, people (mostly Catholics and Orthodox) say "Oh but the saving sacraments aren't works!" and "Well James condemns faith alone!". As for the first argument that the "saving sacraments" aren't works, we can go multiple ways. One way they say is that "they are just an expression of faith and needed to prove yourself", well this also is not true because the Bible says in Romans 4:5
So works are not needed to prove yourself to God, your faith itself is counted as righteousness when you lack works. And if there is anything you have to do for what is given as a gift then you are working to earn it. If you work to earn a gift then you simply earned it and you can boast about having it. If I have to climb to the top of a hill to get a "gift" then I earned it by participating in your social experiment. If it is only faith then all that is required is for me to humble my soul to take it and not be prideful to reject "charity"
"But what about James 2!" Oh very glad you asked. James 2 is all about showing your faithfulness to others. Nothing about your soul getting saved by doing works. And if it did say your soul is saved by doing works then that would contradict the vast amount of verses falsifying that. Such as the ones which I have already given and these
