Backup & Restore ("we", "our", or "the App") is designed as an offline, privacy-first Android utility that helps users back up and restore their Contacts, SMS text messages, and Call Logs directly on their local device storage.
Our Privacy Principles: • 100% On-Device Processing: All backup generation, file parsing, and restore operations occur entirely on your local device. • No Internet Permission: The App does NOT declare or use the android.permission.INTERNET permission. The app is technically incapable of sending, transmitting, or uploading data over the internet or cloud. • Zero Cloud Storage: We do not operate remote servers, cloud backups, or external databases. • No Accounts or Tracking: No registration or login is required. The app contains NO third-party advertising SDKs, analytics packages, or user tracking tools.
To perform backup and restore operations, the App requests access to sensitive device data upon your explicit permission:
• Data Accessed: Names, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, notes, contact photos, and device-linked accounts. • Purpose:
Backup: Read contacts to create standard .vcf (vCard) and XML backup files on your local device.
Restore: Write contacts back to your device storage or selected account from a previously created backup file.
Deduplication: Detect duplicate contacts during restore to avoid cluttering your address book.
• Data Accessed: Text message bodies, conversation threads, timestamps, read status, and sender/recipient numbers. • Purpose:
Backup: Read SMS messages to export them into local XML or JSON backup files.
Restore: Re-insert messages into the device's telephony message database from a saved backup file. • Default SMS Role: To restore SMS messages on modern Android systems, the app temporarily requests to act as the Default SMS app strictly while writing messages to the system database, and prompts you to switch back immediately afterwards.
• Data Accessed: Telephone numbers, associated contact names, call duration, timestamp, and call type (incoming, outgoing, missed, rejected). • Purpose:
Backup: Export call records into standard local backup files.
Restore: Re-populate the system call log database from your local backup files.
• Scope: The App uses Android's Storage Access Framework (SAF). We do not request broad device storage permissions (e.g. READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE). You explicitly select the folder where backup files are saved and read.
• We do NOT sell, rent, trade, or share any personal data with third parties. • The App contains zero third-party SDKs, zero advertising networks, and zero telemetry or analytics services.
• User Ownership: Backup files are stored in standard, open formats (.vcf, .xml, .json) in the directory of your choice. You retain complete ownership and control over these files. • Deletion: You can delete your backup files at any time via your device's file manager or within the app. • Permission Revocation: You can revoke permissions at any time through Android Settings > Apps > Backup & Restore > Permissions.
The App does not collect or transmit personal data over the internet and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). It is safe for all age groups.
• In-App Disclosures: The App displays a prominent disclosure dialog before asking for runtime permissions for Contacts, SMS, and Call Logs. • Permitted Usage: SMS and Call Log permissions are strictly used for the core declared purpose of backup and restore, in compliance with Google Play's Sensitive Permissions Policy.
