Dear Chancellor Frenk,
On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the American Association of Colleges and Universities released the statement “A Call for Constructive Engagement,” [backup link here] signed by over 180 leaders of colleges, universities, and scholarly societies across the country, who “speak with one voice against the unprecedented government overreach and political interference now endangering American higher education” and call for constructive engagement between government and institutions of higher education. This statement is one of the first large collective statements by college and university leaders and is much needed. UCLA is a member of the American Association of Colleges and Universities and Kim A. Wilcox, Chancellor of UC Riverside, has signed. UCLA should join in this collective effort and add its voice. Chancellor Frenk, please add your signature.
