The Port of Constanta-Agigea
On the east coast of Constanța, Romania there established two vital ports for the Black Sea and the country, namely the Constanta port and the Agigea port.
The Constanta port is the largest seaport in Romania and one of the biggest ones along the Black Sea coast. The Agigea port is a medium-sized port located in the east of Romania. At its north, the Constanta port is located, and both appear as the main ports for the Black Sea.
Being the center for international and local trades and routes for shipment vessels from eastern Europe to western Europe, it is now considered one of Romania's important assets as it controls a bigger fraction of the country's economic flow.
While the Constanta port is currently handled by the Romanian government, in contrast, the Agigea port is handled by many private companies and logistics. They are primarily responsible for the number of exports and imports of cargo every day.
At the southern side of the port, a train depot is situated. Agigea Train Station acts as an important transit between Agigea's port and inland Romania.
Regularly, medium-types or Aframax are the vessels visiting at the Agigea port. Listed below are the rate of ships in the port according to the log provided by marinetraffic.com:
Inland, Motor Freighter (20%)
Inland, Pushtow, six cargo barges (12%)
Inland, Unknown (9%)
Inland, Pushtow, four cargo barges (6%)
Cargo vessels (5%)
The website also gives valuable recorded information about the port so make sure you check out their page also.
The maximum recorded length of ships that entered and leave the port is 311 meters;
The maximum draught ever recorded in part is 4.8 meters.
And, the maximum deadweight recorded is 9084t.
The Agigea port is located on the eastern side of Agigea, on the northeast of Eforie, and the southeast of Lazu. Its exact coordinates if you are interested to look into it using maps is (44.09742647518928, 28.658663004253267).
Being situated at the western side of the Black Sea, it became an important destination point for international trade. This benefits the European countries to trade with countries across the Black Sea.
Additionally, both ports control the Danube-Black Sea canal system, a vital trade route across Europe.
Agigea, the commune in the county of Constanta, holds the property for the port. Agigea is best known for its port, vast construction industry, and tourism industry, and it became one of the most important connection points between Romania and foreign countries.
Aside from being surrounded by agricultural hectares, inside were plenty of car dismantling businesses.
dezshop, a car dismantling service and shop for used car parts known not just in the country but recognized internationally, is also located in the commune of Agigea.
Besides the Navodari's lock at the northern side of Constanta, the Agigea port also serves as the main entrance for the Danube-Black Sea Canal system.
The port operates the second lock for the entry to the canal and the Danube river, the Ecluza Agigea or the Agigea lock. The twin-lock system is now managed by the Waterways Administration.
In the southern part of the lock, the Agigea Ecluza Railway Station is situated that serves as a railway station of Agigea. It crosses the Agigea lock, which makes the train an excellent location for viewing the lock and the canal.
The lock is an important structure for directing vessels' transit from the Black Sea to Europe. It offers connections between inland Romania and other countries across the Danube-Black Sea Canal system
The Agigea port is known as the substitute for the port of Constanta, which acts as the secondary port system for vessels in the Black Sea. Yet, it is also a crucial gateway for the Danube-Black Sea Canal.
The Danube Black Sea Canal is a navigable canal in Romania that serves as a route for shipment vessels going to western Europe. It starts from the Agigea Port, which meets with the channel from Navodari in the municipality of Poarta Alba.
The Danube-Black Sea canal system is managed by Agigea, which links the North Sea and the Black Sea. Without the canal, it would affect the economic flow of many European countries since it travels from east to west.
The Danube-Black Sea Canal was built after World War II when Romania regained these territories that were before under foreign occupation. This allowed free movement of vessels from the Black Sea into western Europe through its ports.
The lock at Agigea is a feature that allows it to connect with the Black Sea, and then continue to travel westwards into Europe for approximately 908km.
The canal system has now been built. Although minor repairs are necessary to consolidate the riverbank of the canal, it is a fantastic opportunity for a few firms to participate in the venture.
The rental business in Agigea, Kran, for example, was instrumental in completing the canal system consolidation using road rollers for hire.

On February 16, 2020, a business based in Bucharest was probed for importing illicit waste at the Agigea Port, which was falsely labeled as second-hand goods to the customs authorities.
The 16 containers unloaded from the vessel, under the flag of the Netherland, which arrives from the United Kingdom, in the southern part of Port Agigea.
The border guards, as well as the volunteers from the County Commissioner for Consumer Protection Constanta, the Environmental Guard, the Southern Constanta Agigea Border Customs Office, and the Constanta Public Health Department all, inspected the containers.
It was discovered that the papers provided to the agency were fake in the end. The documents claim that the containers are transporting second-hand furnishings, however, they contain garbage that is unusable.
