I have an interesting story, starting with the genesis of my name in two parts: 

1. Inspired by the English abbreviation of “Conrad Monkey” to “Co-Monk”

2. In traditional Balinese naming convention, “Komang” refers to the third born child in a family 

As both Co-Monk and Komang rhyme quite nicely, I am therefore named as Komang!

I am a Balinese long-tailed macaque breed and my distant family lives in and around the following areas in Bali: Uluwatu, Ubud, and Sangeh monkey forest. 

Growing up, my mom would share stories of Hanuman, the great white monkey hero in Ramayana Hindu folklore, who I grew fond of and is my inspiration to be a creative innovator, a strong fighter, and a great protector of my clan.

In celebration of Conrad Bali’s 20th Anniversary, I am dressed as Barong, an important figure in Balinese mythology. Known as a Balinese symbol of health, good fortune, justice and a leader of the protective spirits.
