Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10

Having worked in multiple school districts, I know we are lucky to have such an amazing staff at Concord. They are professionals who put kids first in every decision. They build mutually respectful relationships with their students and are the biggest encouragers to them. They are strong teachers who know students strengths and next steps and plan strong lessons for them. They work together and epitomize the theme of being “Better Together!” I have been honored to be able to work with such a talented staff and they make Concord the amazing school that we are. To honor them, I would like to give each staff member a Good News Phone Call. Please have your child fill out

Concord Celebration Form for staff members you appreciate. I will deliver them the first week of May to celebrate their work. Thank you for helping me celebrate the wonderful teachers, administrative assistants, para professionals, custodians, cooks, Kids Club workers, etc. we have at Concord. Concord is “Better Together!”

State Testing - MCA III/MTAS - April/May

Students in grades three, four, and five will be participating in the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) during the month of April (see specific dates below). These assessments are given statewide every year to measure student performance on Minnesota’s academic standards. Schools and districts use the information to help improve teaching and learning, and to help you and your child understand how well he or she is progressing toward the achievement standards required for graduation.

With a few exceptions for individual students, all the assessments are taken online using classroom Chromebooks. Please be aware of the scheduled dates, with test sessions planned for the morning on the dates listed below. It is recommended students be in attendance, if at all possible, on their assigned testing dates. We will schedule makeup assessments, but that can be a cumbersome task, so your assistance is appreciated in making sure your student(s) are at school on their testing dates.

You can help your child have a positive experience on these assessments by:

* Seeing that your child is well rested during the testing period.

* Making sure your child has a good breakfast every day, especially during the testing period.

* No SMART phones, fitness watches, or anything hooked up on the internet may not be accessible during the test. Please make sure they stay at home?

* Helping your child to be confident. Let him/her know that you know that he/she will do his/her best and that no one is expected to get every answer correct.

* Not scheduling appointments that would take your child out of school during the testing period.

* It is recommended students be in attendance, if at all possible, on their assigned testing dates.

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) will make results available at the end of the summer/early fall, at which time you will receive access to a report showing your child’s progress. If you would like additional information about these state level assessments or other district level tests, resources can be found on the homepage for our district’s Office of Research and Evaluation: https://www.edinaschools.org/domain/115.
