LTE setup on Com.X or Wanderbox

The process of setting up and configuring LTE(mobile interface) on your system can all be done from the Comma-GUI

The first step would be to ensure that the SIM card you will be inserting into the system, does have data on it, as the mobile interface will not come up if there is no data on the SIM card.

When inserting the SIM card into the SIM slot, ensure that the power cable is not connected to the unit.

Once SIM card has been inserted, you may power up the system.

Setting up the mobile interface with a Prepaid SIM

In the Comma GUI, go to the network tab.

Under Interfaces, there is a ppp1 interface, with description Mobile Data 1. This is the Mobile(LTE) interface.

If this interface is enabled and there is data on the SIM card, the interface will come up, with an IP address.

Though, to enable the interface and set the mobile interface as the default route(default breakout), right click on ppp1 interface and select Edit.

Ensure that the interface is enabled, that Use Peer DNS is ticked and that Default Route ticked.

The systems Internet breakout will now be via the mobile interface. You can confirm this via putty, by pinging a server and seeing that it routes via the mobile interface.

Setting up the mobile interface with an APN SIM

If the SIM card you are using is an APN SIM, you will need to configure APN settings on the mobile interface.

Note, the PPP APN context must not be change at all.

Copy the context from PPP APN context and paste it in the PPP APN2 context.

Delete internet from APN2 context and add the SIM cards APN server/service name in its place.

If the APN has a username, enter this username in the PPP username field.

If the APN has a password, enter this password in the PPP password field.

Accept and Apply these changes, the mobile interface will then restart and connect to the APN service.

To confirm that the system has internet breakout over APN service, ping a server or google.com for example via putty, and confirm you get feedback.

Check status of LTE Connection

Under the Network tab in the Comma GUI, right click on the PPP1 interface, and select status

The status displays the signal strength(RSSI), IMEI number of the modem, the network mode (LTE or 3G) and SIM card serial number
