Paul H. Sommer

Paul H. Sommer, Director of Music

Paul has led the Music Department at Comstock Park since 1994 when he took over as director of the Chancel Choir, and shortly after taking the reigns of the Chancel Chimers and the Pilgrim Ringers Bell Choirs. During his 25+ years at Comstock Park, there have been many other musical groups: SonShine Singers Gospel Chorus, Spirit Fire Praise Band, Cherub Chimers Bell Choir, Allegro Bell Choir, and many other special groups. Each year the music season wraps on the Third Sunday of May with the annual Music Sunday program, featuring all the musical groups and several other individual musical performances.

Paul's background in music started as a young age at St. John's United Church of Christ in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He credits his church choir director, Warren Wandrey, and his high school band director at Comstock Park, Mr. John Steward, and college director at the University of Michigan, Eric Becher, for shaping his love of singing and playing trombone. Over the years Paul has played for many local bands including: the Grand Rapids Symphonic Band, the Grand River Big Band, the Fairhaven Horns of Power, the Hark Up Horns, and All Servants Band. He also enjoyes going back to the University of Michigan every year for Homecoming to march in the "Big House" with his fellow band alumni.
