ComFix 2025 - Stage 1
ComFix 2025 is a communication technology ideation competition organized by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) student branch chapter of the University of Moratuwa. We aim to promote the innovative thinking and technological know-how of undergraduates in the field of Communication Technology by solving real-world problems.
This document contains the guidelines for stage 1 of the ComFix 2025 Communication Technology Ideathon competition.
Stage 1 Guidelines
Problem Identification
The main focus during stage 1 is problem identification. Each competitor (group/individual) must identify a real-world problem that can be solved using communication technology. The competitors are allowed to identify problems in any field of interest, e.g., agriculture, transportation, education, climate change, industrial applications, medicine and science, etc. The problem can be from the field of communication technology itself.
Important!
To solve the identified problem, communication technology must be incorporated in a meaningful way. Although presenting the complete solution is not a requirement at stage 1, you must have an idea about how communication technology can be used to solve the particular problem.
What is Communication Technology ?
Communication Technology is an umbrella term that intersects many disciplines.
Telecommunications/Wireless communications
Computer networking and Internet
Internet of Things (IoT)
Big Data
Communication Software
Cyber Security etc,..
This list is not exhaustive. Find out more about the areas of interest of IEEE ComSoc at https://www.comsoc.org/technical-activities.
Problem Presentation
After completing the research and identifying a specific problem, each competitor must submit a short report before the given deadline. The report must contain the following.
Title (related to the problem)
Team name
Group member names/individual name
Explain the identified problem (can include data, statistics, etc)
Why the problem needs to be solved
How communication technology can be used for the solution (no need for the complete solution)
References (if any)
Report submission
The report must contain a maximum of 3 pages (do not exceed the page limit).
The report must be submitted in a PDF format.
Submission Deadline : 30th March 2025 (any changes to the current date will be notified via the Whatsapp Group)
Your submission (problem identification) will be evaluated and a list of selected competitors to the Stage-2 will be published soon after. When evaluating the submissions from Stage-1, attention will be given to the impact of the identified problem and connection of the solution to the communication technology.
*Any changes or updates to the current proceedings will be notified via the Whatsapp Group.
