Nicknamed, "The Father of the Internet," Vinton Gray Cerf was born on June 23, 1943. He is 79 years old. His education included University of Califorinia, Stanford University, and Van Nuys High School. The website quantamagazine.org says, "The reason that Vint Cerf decided to work on the internet is that 'the internet pioneer Vinton Cerf imagined a network that could offer a richer capacity to serve the growing number of people and vehicles in space. The dream of an interplanetary internet was born.'" According to britannica.com, "Vinton Cerf ... [is an] American computer scientist who is considered one of the founders, along with Robert Kahn, of the Internet." He and Robert Kahn both created what runs our world today. Without the internet, we wouldn't have nearly as much technology as we do today. Britannica also says, "In 2004 both Cerf and Kahn won the A.M. Turing Award, the highest honour in computer science, for their 'pioneering work on internetworking, including the design and implementation of the Internet’s basic communications protocols, TCP/IP, and for inspired leadership in networking.'" Also, according to internethalloffame.org, some of his minor accomplishments were that "He also served from 2000-2007 as chairman of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), an organization he helped form. Cerf served as founding president of the Internet Society from 1992-1995, and in 1999 served a term as Chairman of the Board." Cerf has been part of many organizations that have helped improved the quality of the internet. He is still very busy in developing computer science.
