Using the data collected from Bureau of Transportation Logistics, we have presented the data about the transportation economics in United states from 1998 to 2018.
The data consists the information about the contribution of transportation to the overall GDP of United States over the years, in Millions of Dollars.
The contribution of GDP has increased from 1999, with the increase in the businesses and urbanization over the years the need for transportation has increased.
Although there was a decrease in the contribution to GDP in 2009, but, there was a good increase during 2010, and there has been an increase ever since.
Also the Graph is about the cumulative contribution of all the transportation mode, this includes highways, railways, airways and other modes of transportation.
The Scatter Plot is depicting the total revenue and Expenditure by the State & Local Government in thousands of Dollars. The size of the dot represents the difference in the revenue and expenditure. The plot depicts that the revenue and expenditure for the highways is consistently higher from 2004 to 2018. Also the data for the revenue and expenditure from 2004 to 2018 for all the mode of transportation is having very small about variation. The data for the different years can be seen by selecting from the drop down menu.
The scatter plot about revenue and expenditure for different transportation mode show that highway transportation has the highest revenue and expenditure by the state and local government, in the given years.
The column & line chart represent the relationship of the Wages of the employees and the number of employees for the respective transportation mode.
The wages of the employees and the number of employees in the roadways transportation is showing a similar trend with a decrease between the years form 2008 to 2009. After this decrease in trend there is a steady increase in the rate of wages of employees and the number of employees in the roadways transportation sector.
The Graph for railways shows that there was a reduction in the wages of the employees during the years of 2000 to 2002 but then there was a good growth in the further years with a few fluctuations between the years of 2008 to 2016. But in 2018 there is again an increasing trend in the wages of the railway employees. The trend for the number of working employees in Railways is not constant between 2006 to 2010, but then after a much decrease in the year of 2010, there is a consistent increase in the number of employment.
The Wage of employees and the number of employees in the waterways transportation sector, has a increasing rate from 1999, there were some decrease in the wages of the employees with the decrease in the rate of number of employees in 2009 and 2016, but then again, there was an increase in the wages of employees and the number of employees, in the future years.
The rate of Wages of Employees and the number of employees in the roadways transportation mode is consistent with each other. The rate of wages of employees and the number of employees increases from 1999 but there are fluctuations in the rate between 2001 to 2009. But after 2009 there is a consistent increase in the rate of wages of employees and the number of employees in the roadways transportation mode.
The rate of employment with the wages of the employees in other transportation service shows a increasing rate of wages of employees and the number of employees in the sector, however there was a decrease in the wages of the employees and number of employees in 2009, but from 2010 the increase in the trend is consistent for the wages of the employees and the number of employees in other transportation sector.
From the above graphs about wages of employees and the number of employees in the transportation sector, we get to know that, highway transportation mode has the highest employment number and the wages of employees is also higher. This represents that highway mode of transportation is an important mode of transportation.
The aim of the following scatter plot is to depict the role of transportation in the development of a region. Since the expenditure and revenue of Highways is higher and the employment rate in highways is higher, over the years from 1999 to 2018, this shows that the highway transportation is the most used method of transportation. So a scatter plot of highway miles vs the population of the area having population above 750,000 is presented.
The Scatter Plot depicts the highway mileage with respect to the population in thousands of Urbanized area in United states having population above 750,000. The areas like Tulsa, Louisville, Salt Lake City and Providence - Pawtucket, are among the states having population 820 to 900 in 1000 and their highway mileage is less, and when we see New York Northeastern NJ, Los Angeles, Chicago - Northwestern IN 1/, the population is much higher and the total highway mileage is also high.
This project illustrates an interactive dataset of the role of economy on transportation in the United States.
