Although COMS was founded with the primary purpose of facilitating learning and competition through the game of chess, it also plans to open competitive programs in the future using the same bracket structure as chess tournaments, but applied to other sorts of competitions.
COMS is an organization founded to further the impact of chess on the community. It started out as a small endeavor, but has since grown to positively influence many people.
In June of 2019, COMS launched two programs: The COMS Chess League and the COMS Chess Club. While the Chess League was focussed toward competition and hands on engagement, the Chess Club was geared toward teaching the rules of chess. Due to low participation in the Chess Club, COMS made the difficult decision in October of 2019 to discontinue the program. They then directed all their energy toward the Chess League, which has slowly been on the rise in popularity.
COMS's mission is clear: To have a positive impact on the community through means of constructive and engaging competition, specifically through the game of chess.
