This tutorial shows you how to create words and letters (text) from blocks. The text is placed in the Minecraftworld at a position you choose using ||blocks:print||. The object you will make is called acompass rose. This is a 2D marker showing the North, South, East, and West directions. In the last step, you will add another dimension to the compass rose to show the Up and Down directions.

The ~ symbol means that the position is relative to the player positionrather than to the world. Thus, ~20 ~0 ~0 means 20 blocks East of the player position.

Students will practice using coordinates in Minecraft to create a simple compass rose that points to the four cardinal directions within a Minecraft world. Students can then use this as the basis for creating more individualized and detailed compass roses.

Put the values (~-10 ~-1 ~0) in from and (~10 ~-1 ~0) in to. This will print out a line of 21 blocks along the X-axis. The line will be under your feet, and you will be in the very center.

Instead of using Gray Wool to print out a line of blocks along the X, Y, and Z axes, you can select different colors to represent the three different directions.

What else might you add to make this more entertaining? What if chickens appeared after blocks? Chickens running along the east/west axis might be interesting. Could you somehow make arrows instead of just straight lines?

How about changing the colors of the printed text to the colors of the X, Y, and Z axes? You could change all the colors to something else. You could theme this out a little - make the compass in wood and then use stone and other items to give this compass a medieval theme. How would you theme it?

Enjoy the splendor of historic downtown Newburyport, Massachusetts. Located in a tranquil setting and settled on a quiet lane, all the Newburyport MA accommodations at Market Square are just a block away from the Compass Rose Inn.

I have never written a post about geography. Why? I have always struggled with putting together a geography block that is satisfying to me. I have trouble making these blocks feel cohesive, organized, and interesting. Although, it is finally getting a little bit easier. So here are a few ideas, in case you have the same trouble!

Last year I had the opportunity to visit Local Geography again with my son. Here is his book cover and freehand compass rose. The rose was drawn with watercolor pencils, then a damp paintbrush was carefully used over the pencil drawing.

I know I sound like a broken record, but thank you so much for posting about geography. I will be starting my first geography block next year and need all the help I can get!

What is hard for me is that I am not a native of my country, let alone my town, having moved here fairly recently. Plus all my Waldorf resources originate in the US or Europe, but I am in the southern hemisphere. On top of it all there is very little local history known about my area as it suffered a massive earthquake in the 1930s and most of the records were lost. Finally, how do you explain to a sensitive 10 year old that the landscape was remolded by a massive earthquake not that long ago?

As I said, I need all the help I can get LOL!

The patterns for the another set of nine circle blocks (this one included) can be purchased on PayHip, but I have left the tutorials here, as they are photo-heavy. The Finishing Instructions pattern for Shine: The Circles Quilt is also listed on Payhip.

As you may recall, last year Greater Greater Washington launched MetroGreater, a contest to crowd-source quick, relatively inexpensive ideas for making Metro a little better for riders. The winning idea was to install compass rose decals outside Metro station exits to help riders find their bearings after leaving a station.

Last week, WMATA installed the first round of compass roses in four stations: Gallery Place, Metro Center, Smithsonian, and Union Station. I checked out the one at the 13th and G Street entrance on Monday.

It's not hard to imagine how the compass roses will come in handy for at least some Metro riders. But I wonder if a sign pointing to the nearest chicken and donut hot spot would be more of an instant hit.

Objectives:  To assess the efficacy and safety of a simple, scarless method based on a novel "compass rose" technique, which addresses the etiology of minor tuberous breast and other cases desiring small areolar diameter reductions.

1st issue, I was looking for a more elegant display for heading information. I have a gauge , displays heading in degrees and wanted a better looking compass rose. 2nd issue, I have pitch, roll, heading and wanted to animate an image of my vehicle so it would be a graphical representation of vehicle attitude. I am using labview version 8.6 . Thanks again

I have customized a Compass control from a gague was not hard, but this is for a client so I can not post it. Essentially make the scale from 0-360, remove the gap between 0 and 360 and paste the rose (see google images) instead of the gauge background image. you can even replace the image used for direction to make it look excatly like you want.

Thanks for responce. I have created gauge with 0 to 360 This all workd fine. I am trying to paste compass rose image but it covers up needle. How do I paste image to gauge background? (behind needle) is this possible? Thanks to all.....regards

The direction of the net force on the block at the bottom of the arc (point P) is toward the center of the circle, or along the line from point P to point B, which is answer choice A. Here option A is the correct answer.

The direction of the net force on the block at the bottom of the arc (point P) can be determined using the laws of motion. Since the incline is frictionless, no forces are acting on the block except for gravity.

At the top of the incline, the block has potential energy due to its height above the ground. As the block slides down the incline, this potential energy is converted into kinetic energy, and the block gains speed. At the bottom of the incline, the block has maximum kinetic energy and minimum potential energy. The force acting on the block at this point is the force of gravity, which is directed downward.

As the block moves along the arc of the circle at the bottom of the incline, its direction of motion changes, and so does its velocity. According to the laws of motion, any change in velocity requires acceleration, which in turn requires a net force.

Since the block is moving in a circular path, it is experiencing a centripetal force that keeps it moving in a circular path. This force is directed toward the center of the circle, which is point B in this case.

What a great job the woman did to make your compass. Great place to display it too.

We have seen some barn quilts in Kewaunee County, just south of Door County. It was such fun to see them, and made me want to know their stories.

In this provided photo, Ascending Flow participant Brayden Boyce speaks at a Portland block party hosted by the organization in 2022. Ascending Flow helps young adults like Boyce who are aging out of Oregon's foster care system find creative outlets to express themselves.

Hi Christine,

I have been working on a quilt that you designed fir project house 291,

Called Compasses rose. I cannot figure out how one of the first pieces can go together?? It says to use inset seams to add strips to center, they do not go together. Can you help me?

Thank you ,

Betty cortelli

I am finally starting your 2012 Color My World Quilt. Are the directions on the first page incorrect? The block before adding the black and red triangle borders cont possibly come out to 12 1/2 when each square was cut to 4 . I need to make sure this entire center block comes out to the correct size.

This gold compass pendant, named Voyager, was created for those who seek adventure, who beat new paths and never settle for the ordinary. The front features the compass rose while the back showcases a great ship sailing the open water. Wear our mens compass necklace as a symbol of your love for adventure.

Small Size: The weight of the small mens gold compass pendant is 11.5 grams. It measures 22.5mm (0.89 inches) in width and length. The overall length, including the bail, is 35mm (1.38 inches).

I can't afford the iron! Have you ANY idea how much this room used up? Twenty-two and a half stacks of iron. Yes, villager golem farms exist, but I haven't gone down that road. I also didn't want to do the gold farm in the nether thing, so the compass directions are made of yellow wool.

Yes I lucked out and found a couple of veins about 500 blocks from my base. I spent ages before strip mining and caving but never stumbled across any. Later on I loaded up uNmINeD and found that, indeed, there are virtually no veins within 500 blocks of my base!

But why would a creeper even be an issue? I've never had a creeper just suddenly spawn inside of any of my bases, or somehow get though while I'm entering/leaving it (my main bases have iron doors activated with buttons and a fence around them for a second layer of protection). Even any light at all is enough to prevent spawning in current versions, while a good level of illumination will reach at least 8-9 (I just more or less automatically place torches down while caving yet the whole area is properly lit due to the simple fact that by the time it gets too dark the light level is still 2-3 and the light from two adjacent torches will only drop off half as much, i.e. 14-2 = 12; 14-6 = 8).

Also, instead of glowstone you could use glow item frames; I don't know how easy it is to find glow squid in modern versions but I've found plenty while caving in my modded world (I actually backported them to TMCW, based on 1.6.4; many people say they are totally useless but they are actually one of the very few post-1.6.4 mobs that I'd make use of since glow item frames, or TMCW's equivalent (they are simply an attribute of normal item frames gained by right-clicking on them with a glow ink sac), solve the lighting issue, including having the ability to have fully-lit maps in a dark room (previously, I'd place them on glowstone but this means the wall have to be 2 blocks thick or have something covering them on the other side to hide the glowstone):

Dark rooms work especially well since they are actually pitch black, unlike the badly flawed vanilla lighting system which only goes down to 5% even on Moody:

This is my map wall in my current world, all the items frames were "lit" with glow ink sacs (unfortunately, in vanilla you'll have to remove them in order to craft them together while I can simply right-click on them; no new items or entities either, they just drop a normal item frame when broken, and can even be "turned off" with a normal ink sac):

A view down the corridor where my maps are showing the lighting conditions (the yellowish blocks in the ceiling are "light blocks", a variant of glowstone using a texture I once used back in 2013):
