ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The commerce Department of Rangapara College was started with the establishment of the college in the year of 1979 as PU semi-commerce with Commercial Geography and Accountancy subjects. Subsequently the Undergraduate course in commerce was started on 8th August, 1988 under Gauhati University and has been scaling height ever since. Rangapara College is the only institute in the area of Rangapara which has been imparting commerce education for the last 3 decades. The faculty was established considering the potentialities of business education among the various communities living in and around Rangapara and Balipara area. Presently the Department offers commerce education at the Higher Secondary and undergraduate level under the Gauhati University CBCS course curriculum. Over the years the department so far has been able to produce university rank holder and many successful alumni engaged either in Government or Private sectors and many working as successful entrepreneurs.  The department conceives and executes numerous programme to improve the employability and all-round development of the students

Strength

1.      Qualified and active faculty members contribute significantly to create congenial academic environment through 

         quality teaching and by promoting harmony among the students, parents, society and management.

2.      Teachers are always ready to serve the students to clear their doubts and also counsel them on higher education and 

         career avenues.

3.      Faculties and students collectively engage in co-curricular and extracurricular activities

4.      Strong Alumni base of the department.

Weakness

1.      Poor internet connectivity in the rural areas hinder online classes.

2.      Lack of financial grant for research related activities from the industrial sector.

3.      Lack of feeder school for commerce subject.

Opportunities

1.      As an only institute in the area for imparting business education, the department has immense scope to start the 

         incubation center to promote entrepreneurship

2.      B.Voc course in digital marketing and retailing can be started.

3.      Add-on job-oriented certificate courses on digital account maintenance, stock trading and taxation can be introduced.

4.      As the area is naturally rich and surrounded by tea gardens, Agri tourism and Tea Tourism can be promoted through 

         appropriate Marketing and Management education

5.      Motivating students on self-employment.

Challenges

1.      To promote online teaching among the rural students.

2.      To create Industrial Linkage.

3.      Induction of faculties in the allied subjects of commerce like Economics, Mathematics, Statistics and Information   

         technology.
