For those who got The Ultimate Collection the support claim to be only compatible for windows 7 well guess what, also not true. They made implantation of one or few .dll files in the installation folder.

Sorry, however, it is a 4 year topic but is still current. I down loaded 5 command and conquer games on my new computer with windows 10 and none would play without DirectX9. I could not download DirectX9 on my windows 10. To state I am frustrated would be mild.

Hi i have installed C&C generals and C&C Zero hour on my pc. When i click to launch the program nothing happens ? i have full admin privalages i have allowed access for the program to run past the windows firewall, and i have tried all compatability modes for this to run to no avail. After some research i found this ..

I have a core i5 laptop running windows 7 home premium 64-bit with an ATI graphics card and I had exactly the same problems getting C&C Generals and Zero Hour to work.

Good News - Have just successfully managed to get it working, and it IS Windows 7 that causes the problem, specifically it's to do with access permissions to folders - Windows 7 blocks access to folders that Generals uses to run.

The way I fixed it was:

In 'My Documents' (usually at C:\users\YOURNAME\documents) there should be a folder named 'Command and Conquer Generals Data' or 'Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data', which was put there when you installed the game. You need to create a text file using notepad and save it into this folder. However, you must click 'save as' and change the type drop-down box from text file (.txt) to 'all files'. Then save the file as 'options.ini'

Before you save, paste this text into the file to get you started:

How evere the file mentioned Command and conquer generals data folder is missing ?? even after a fresh install ??? so i can't make this patch work if windows cant find the file any help on this please

With the UN calling for GDI to assist in combating Nod in Europe, the player assists as a GDI commander under the command of General Mark Jamison Sheppard. After establishing a beachhead within Nod's territory in Eastern Europe, GDI focus on controlling Poland and Belarus and removing troops from occupied lands in Germany. However, Kane uses media manipulation to convince the world that GDI deliberately attacked and massacred the citizens of the Polish city of Biaystok. Although Sheppard denies GDI's involvement, the UN cuts funding to the military outfit, forcing GDI to mount defensive operations against a sudden surge of Nod attacks, including protecting bases and leading Tiberium scientist Dr. Ignatio Mobius. However, Nod soon finds themselves on the defensive upon learning that it was a ruse designed by Sheppard and the UN to lure them into a false sense of security, with new funding allowing GDI to bring forth new combat units to help in battle. Eventually GDI locates Kane's main base of operation at a complex called the Temple of Nod in Sarajevo, Bosnia, with Sheppard ordering the commander to launch a final assault to defeat him. GDI succeeds, with the complex destroyed by GDI's superweapon, the space-based Ion Cannon, ending the conflict, though leaving some experts to question if Nod will cease operating.

With Nod engaged in open warfare across the globe, Kane gives orders for his forces to secure territory in Africa, with his second-in-command Seth assigning the player, a new recruit, to assist in the Brotherhood's operations.[32] After successfully conducting operations in Northern Africa through the use of both conventional and unconventional warfare, hitting GDI targets, eliminating warlords, and securing a set of codes for nuclear missiles, Seth attempts to send the recruit to attack the United States military, but is executed by Kane for initiating a rogue operation. Upon combating the chaos Seth created, and countering GDI's efforts to re-establish themselves in Northern Africa, Kane assigns his recruit to lead the charge in securing the rest of the continent, eventually culminating in them establishing a Temple of Nod in South Africa and securing control of GDI's Ion Cannon. With the cannon secured, Kane denotes victory in Africa, and makes plans to achieve the same in Europe, allowing the recruit to use the cannon to destroy one of four historical landmarks with the hijacked Ion Cannon - the White House, the British Houses of Parliament, the Eiffel Tower, or the Brandenburg Gate - thus shattering GDI's public image.

The reason that this game no longer works is outlined by the other answer and this other question on Arqade. Basically there was a security hole in Windows 7 and 8 that Microsoft patched that makes certain write protection not work anymore. There is a simpler and safer solution to the problem than the one outlined in the other answer though (note that there is no workaround for Windows 10). First, open a command prompt as an administrator:

Here... new version is done. This one simply has all the language inis and strings files inside the mod mixfile, meaning you can have the mod enabled in ModControl in conquer.ini, and can change languages without any problems. It currently supports all 4 official languages.

Note that for languages besides the originals, you don't need to include the language ini; I just had to do that to make it override the strings files, since the original conquer.eng/ger/fre are in cclocal.mix, which has highest priority and can't be overridden. so I changed them to conquer._en/_ge/_fr to solve this. But for Spanish, you can just add "conquer.spa": since the mod mixfile is read before the language mixfile, the one in the mod mixfile will be used

Ah, there it is! I was searching by command and conquer - generals. I'm going to try one more thing and verify WinXP is the 32 bit version and also try the 32 bit version of Windows 10...Not sure if that'll make a difference since I've tried compatibility mode to no avail.

Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath also features a new strategic layer to gameplay that allows players to establish bases, build customized armies, and attack their enemies on a global scale - and then dive into the frenzied tactical combat where their skills as a commander will make the difference in battle. The game also introduces six new sub-factions and a wealth of new units, structures, and powers to the armies of the Global Defence Initiative, the Brotherhood of Nod, and the enigmatic alien Scrin.

The Xbox 360 version of Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath will debut a revolutionary new radial interface designed specifically for console gamers. Taking RTS controls to a whole new level, players will utilize the command stick to build, deploy, and attack.

A little background: our shop has traditionally run a Microsoft software stack but now we're planning to use embedded Linux and I find myself in the role of Columbus: conquer the new world. I mention this because it means I lack the context to interpret what you may think is a simple answer. If you can explain things with comparison to how Windows works this will greatly aid comprehension.

If I've understood the idea of X-Windows correctly, an application is an X client and the windowing APIs send/receive UI messages to an X-server via a TCP socket (sends window drawing commands to the X-server and receives mouse and keyboard activity messages from it).

On my desk I have a Linux Mint13 host using the Cinnamon desktop and named ForwardUntoDawn. It is connected to my 192.168.174 network as 35, and my Win7 is on the same network as 11. They can ping each other, and SAMBA allows file sharing between them. I have installed telnetd and sshd on ForwardUntoDawn and I can establish from Win7 telnet and ssh sessions, and authenticate to obtain a command line. e24fc04721
