Proximity Voice

1. First of all, you will need to download Fabric. Fabric is a mod loader similar to forge, however a lot more optimized and it will not use nearly as much of your computer’s resources. To download Fabric you can head to their website by clicking on the button below.

The voice-chat mod we use is compatible to be used with Forge, however this guide will not be explaining how to download and use it via Forge.

2. You will then need to press the download button as shown in the picture below.

3. After pressing the download here button you will need to press another big blue button labeled "Download for Windows". If you are not using a windows machine, please click the small blue text button below the big blue button labeled "Download universal jar".

4. After the installer has been downloaded and opened please make sure that the Minecraft version you are downloading it for is correct, in my case it would be 1.18.2 as well that you make sure you select the newest loader version available.

5. When you have made sure the settings are correct for your installation and both Minecraft and the Minecraft launcher is fully closed, you can click the Install button as shown in the picture.

6. After you have installed the correct fabric version, open your Minecraft launcher, locate the correct version profile and start the game.

7. Once the game is open, navigate to the options, then into the resource packs page.

8. Once in the resource packs page please click the button labeled "Open Pack Folder", it should be located next to the "Done" button.

9. Once in the resource pack folder, navigate to the main minecraft folder, in most cases it should be one folder back.

10. Locate the folder named "mods", enter it and make sure that the folder is empty, if it is not empty, please create a folder inside the mods folder and move all the current mods in there.

11. After entering and checking that the folder is empty you will have to close down Minecraft.

12. Once Minecraft is closed down you will have to download the proximity voice-chat mod itself, the button below will take you directly to the downloads page.

13. Find the newest version of the mod for your selected game version and click the "Download File" button as shown in the picture below, and again in this case we will download the newest version for 1.18.2

14. Once the mod is downloaded, drag and drop the jar file into the mod folder that you opened a few steps ago.

15. If you do not want to download Optifine you can close the file explorer window. 

When the mod is downloaded and moved into the correct folder you can start Minecraft back up.

Once Minecraft is started, join the Note server and hold the "CAPSLOCK" button on your keyboard whilst looking down at the bottom left corner of the game, if a microphone symbol shows up then you have successfully downloaded the mod. You can also check the resource pack page to see if you have some extra Icon packs instead of joining the server.

16. Now that you have the mod installed correctly, head into Options > Controls > Key Binds...

If you scroll to the bottom of the page you can find the key binds for the voice chat mod, I'd suggest you change the Push-to-talk button to something else as let's face it, the Caps Lock button isn't exactly a very good button to use for it. A button I like to use as the Push-to-talk button is the "Left Alt" key as it's close to the main movement keys and easy to press & hold while moving, whilst I put the Voice chat settings key bind to the "Right Alt" or "ALT GR" button as it's easy to access, but not close enough to accidentally press on most (if not all) QWERTY keyboards.

If there are any other key-binds you would like to change, go for it.

17. Once you've bound the "Voice Chat Settings" key you can hit that key on your keyboard and configure it how you want it to be, My preferences are to have it voice activated instead of Push-to-talk, but you might not have an environment suitable for that, or that you're just not comfortable with your microphone turned on at all times.

If you have multiple microphones connected to your computer at the same time, such as a webcam with a built in microphone, a headset with a microphone and perhaps even a standalone microphone then you can select the microphone you wish to use with the "Select Microphone" button, you can also select the speakers you wish to use as well with the "Select Speakers" button in case you have a pair of headphones as well as a pair of speakers, or if you use something like VoiceMeeter or Wave Link that can split your audio up into multiple channels.

18. To use optifine you will first off have to download and install two more mods and also the optifine client you wish to use.

To install these mods you can follow the steps 12 - 14 with the newly acquired mods.

19. After the two new mods are installed, you can also download the selected version of Optifine and move that to the mods folder as well.

20. When the Optifine client and the two other mods has been downloaded and moved to the mods folder you can start minecraft back up, to check that Optifine works check for the Optifine version text in the lower left corner of the main menu, if it displays the version of both Fabric and Optifine then you have installed it correct and you should be able to use all Optifine features as normal.
